The stuffed toy was made in the former United States of America's President Theodore Roosevelt
The teddy bear is one of the most famous toys worldwide, usually perceived as a sign of love. And it is rightly perceived because a lovely act by America's President Theodore Roosevelt led to the creation of the global toy.
The year was 1902, and Mississippi's Governor Andrew H. Longino had invited President Roosevelt on a bear hunting trip.
Unfortunately, the hunting party could not spot a single bear.
Given that nobody wished Roosevelt to go empty-handed, his assistants cornered a black bear and tied it to a willow tree.
They summoned Roosevelt to the scene and asked him to eliminate the bear. However, the president found it unsportsmanlike and freed the bear, allowing it to escape.
A political cartoonist named Clifford Berryman drew a satirical cartoon about the incident, which was published by the Washington Post.
Morris Michtom, a candy and toy maker, saw the cartoon and thought of manufacturing teddy bears to honour the President.
Michtom soon established the Ideal Toy Company, producing teddy bears that became a hit in the world of toys across the planet.
