India registered its highest-ever total in the history of the T20 World Cup
The Men in Blue registered a massive victory against Zimbabwe at the Chepauk, moving an inch closer to the semi-final berth. India posted a target of 256 runs, but Zimbabwe did not go down without a fight, scoring 184 runs, which was commendable, despite being way down the ICC T20 team rankings. Therefore, the game witnessed several records being shattered, whereas new ones took their place.
In the following paragraphs, let us check out the records that were shattered and created in the India versus Zimbabwe game.

The game saw India score its highest-ever total in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue scored 256 runs, and had they scored five runs more, i.e., above 260 runs, they would’ve shattered the highest team total ever scored in the tournament, belonging to Sri Lanka, who made 260 runs versus Kenya in 2007. India and Zimbabwe also grabbed the second-highest aggregate in a game, i.e., 440 runs – the first position belongs to England and South Africa, who had an aggregate of 459 runs in 2016.
Sixes and strike rate
India scored 17 sixes in the games, going past its own record of 15 scored against Australia in 2024. Further, India also scored 63 sixes in a single edition, only second behind the West Indies, whose record stands at 66. In the remaining of the tournament, if India adds more compared to the Indies, the record will shift to India’s name.
Another batting record that India created was that on the night, six batters of the team played with a strike rate of 150, a first in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Individual records

239 runs in 2022
199 runs in 2024
213* runs in 2026
SKY scored 200+ runs in 2 T20WCS. It would've been 3 consecutive 200+ scores in T20WCs had he scored 1 more run in T20WC 24. He has been best batter from Ind in last 3 T20WCs. pic.twitter.com/xYXj7MlJud
Not only teams but also individual players racked up new records or milestones. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav scored his 4000th T20I run, joining an elite club of batters, whereas Arshdeep Singh became India’s highest T20I wicket taker in the T20 World Cup, surpassing the record of Jasprit Bumrah.

From Zimbabwe, Brian Bennett made several records, such as:
- Highest individual score (97 runs) for Zimbabwe in the Men's T20 World Cup.
- Most 50+ scores (three) for Zimbabwe in the Men's T20 World Cup.
- Most boundary runs (68 runs) by a Zimbabwe batter in a Men’s T20 World Cup innings.
- Most sixes (6) by a Zimbabwe batter in a Men’s T20 World Cup innings.
The game concluded with Zimbabwe getting eliminated from the tournament, but the team earned respect for their gallant efforts. On the other hand, India now looks forward to repeating the same kind of performance in the upcoming match against the West Indies in a bid to reach the semi-final stage.
