South Africa’s last game versus India at the venue ended in a 30-run defeat
India and South Africa are all set to take a jibe at each other in their first Super 8 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. For South Africa, this match will be all about taking revenge for the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Men in Blue in the 2024 final of the ICC T20 World Cup. However, given that India are joint hosts of the tournament, South Africa’s match is on Indian soil, i.e., at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
There’s no need to go through India’s record, given it is the home side and has won seven out of the nine T20I games played in this stadium. But what about the visitors? How’s their record in T20Is at the Motera Stadium?
South Africa vs. India

South Africa is relatively new to this stadium and its conditions because the team played their first-ever T20I game at this venue on December 19, 2025, against India. This is the only match between the two sides played at the venue, and India won the game by 30 runs, with Tilak Verma’s 73 runs and Hardik Pandya’s 63 that helped India post a target of 231 runs. In response, the Proteas were wrapped at 201 runs, thanks to Varun Chakravarthy’s four wickets.

In Group D, South Africa clashed with Canada and posted 213 runs, whereas in response, the minnow side from North America managed 156 runs. The Proteas won the game by 57 runs with notable performances from Aiden Markram and Lungi Ngidi.

South Africa’s last game at this venue was on February 14, when the team defeated New Zealand by seven wickets and 17 balls to spare. Once again, Aiden Markram played a big knock of 86 runs that helped the Proteas secure a win over the Kiwis.
At the Motera Stadium, South Africa has played four T20I matches, winning three but losing one against India. Will India hold on to its ground, or will the Proteas finally get their revenge?
