The West Indies have an upper hand over India in the history of the T20 World Cup
After suffering another World Cup heartbreak at the Narendra Modi Stadium at the hands of South Africa in their first Super 8 match, India’s chances of proceeding to the semi-final hang by a thin thread. India’s next two matches are against Zimbabwe and the West Indies, and surprisingly, India has not had a great history against the Windies in the tournament’s history.
Ahead of the game, let us check out how India’s T20I World Cup journey has been against the Indies.

India and the West Indies have played only four games against each other in the T20 World Cup. Surprisingly, India has won only one game, whereas three went in favour of the Indies. The two sides met for the first time in 2009, when the Indies won by seven wickets, followed by another 14-run victory in 2010. In 2014, the Men in Blue secured a seven-wicket victory, while in 2016, during their last encounter, India faced defeat.
Overall T20I history
Overall, the two sides have played 30 T20 international matches against each other. Out of 30 matches, 19 went in India's favour, whereas the West Indies emerged victorious in 10— one game between the two sides ended with no result.

It’s been nearly three years since the two sides have not met each other for a T20I series. The last T20I series played between the two sides was in August 2023 during the India tour of the West Indies and USA. In that series, India had lost three matches, and the Indies won the series.
Players from the present squad
In the 2023 series, several Indian players from the ongoing World Cup squad played against the Indies. Arshdeep Singh was India’s top wicket taker with seven wickets, followed by Kuldeep Yadav’s six scalps and Hardik Pandya’s four wickets.

In terms of runs, Tilak Varma was India’s highest run scorer with 173 runs scored in five matches, followed by Suryakumar Yadav, who made 166 runs. Shubman Gill was India’s third-highest run scorer, but unfortunately, he is not a part of the ongoing World Cup.

Given the match between two sides is scheduled to be played at the Eden Gardens, it must be noted that the Men in Blue and the West Indies played their last game at the venue in 2022. On February 20 in a T20I game, India had defeated the Indies by 17 runs.
Overall, in T20Is, India enjoys a dominance over the West Indies. However, the Men in Blue must get a strong grip over the Indies in their upcoming game to ensure that their record in the T20 World Cup history improves and India proceeds to the semi-final of the tournament.
