T20 WC 2026: IND vs. WI at Eden Gardens – A Look Back at All Games in India’s Favour

The two sides have played four T20I games so far against each other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata

India and the West Indies are set to play their last Super 8 match, and for one of the two teams, the match could be their last game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. From the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, one team will proceed to the semi-final, whereas another team will go back to their respective homes.

Which team will become victorious? It is tough to determine, but we can surely look back at games that the two sides have played against each other at the venue.

2018

The first T20I game between the two sides at the venue was during the West Indies tour of India. Kuldeep Yadav's three wickets for 13 runs reduced the Indies to 109/8 when they batted first. In response, India wrapped up the game in 17.5 overs but lost five wickets – Krunal Pandya’s 22 runs off nine balls lit the stadium on fire. India won the game by wickets.

2022

In 2022, the teams played three games back-to-back at the venue, which were part of the West Indies tour of India.

In the first game, the West Indies set a target of 157 runs with a notable performance from Nicholas Pooran, who scored 61 runs in 43 balls at a strike rate of 141.86. However, India’s Rohit Sharma replied with 40 runs in 19 balls, whereas Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav added 35 and 34 runs, respectively.

India won the game by six wickets and seven balls to spare.

The second game also saw India win the match by eight runs. India put on a fantastic batting show, hitting 186 runs on the board. In response, the Indies came close, hitting 178 runs but missing the target by eight runs. Rishabh Pant was awarded the Player of the Match award for his 52 runs in 28 balls.

The third game was no different, as India once again scored in the 180s region, with 65 coming off 31 balls from Suryakumar Yadav’s willow, followed by 35 runs from Venkatesh Iyer in 19 balls. In the chase, the Indies fell short by 17 runs, and India won the game.

7 out of 8

Overall, India has played eight T20I games at the iconic Eden Gardens, winning on seven occasions. The Men in Blue’s only defeat was at the hands of England in the first-ever game of India’s T20I game in Kolkata in 2011. India scored only 120 runs that were easily chased by England, who won the game by six wickets and eight balls to spare.

For India, the Eden Gardens has always been a positive ground with a history of winning, coupled with the electrifying support from Kolkata’s cricket fans. Therefore, India's chances of winning are slightly higher than those of the West Indies.
