T20 WC 2026: IND vs. ZIM – Head-to-Head, Overall History & One World Cup Game Between the Two Sides

In 2024, Zimbabwe shocked India in one of the games during a T20I series

India and Zimbabwe have had a poor start in the Super 8 round, having lost their respective first games against South Africa and the West Indies. Up next, the two sides will take on each other, and India are undoubtedly the favourites to win, given Zimbabwe is considered a minnow nation. However, one must not forget that they topped their group, keeping Sri Lanka in second place while eliminating Australia from the tournament.

In short, the game’s result could turn in anybody’s favour, so it is incredibly hard to determine the point’s winner. However, we can certainly examine the history between India and Zimbabwe in the T20I format ahead of the game.

One World Cup clash

India and Zimbabwe have clashed against each other only on one occasion in the history of the T20 World Cup. In the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, the two sides were together in Group 2, and India had thrashed Zimbabwe by 71 runs.

Batting first, India has posted a target of 186 runs, thanks to a blistering 61-run innings from Suryakumar Yadav in merely 25 balls and KL Rahul’s 51 runs off 35 deliveries.

In response, Zimbabwe was wrapped up at 115 runs as every Indian bowler grabbed at least one wicket – Ravichandran Ashwin managed three scalps in four overs.

Head-to-Head

Overall, in T20Is, the two teams have played each other 13 times. Out of 13 matches, India has won 10 games, whereas three went in Zimbabwe's favour. The tally is no surprise given the stark differences in the quality of cricket the two sides play.

Last series

The last series that the two sides played against each other was a five-match T20I series in July of 2024. Zimbabwe shocked the cricket fraternity by winning the first game of that series by 13 runs. Of course, India made a comeback by winning the remaining four games and securing the series, but Zimbabwe left a dent that we hope the Indian outfit remembers.

In the upcoming game, given that India are the defending champions, they need to get everything correct against Zimbabwe, followed by the match against the West Indies. On the other hand, Zimbabwe is unlikely to win the tournament, but they are certainly playing to create upsets. To put it in a nutshell, from this moment onwards, India needs to get it right every single day for the remainder of the tournament, whereas Zimbabwe only needs to get it right on one day.
