Motorcycle 101: How to Avoid Windblast While Riding?

Windblast is one of the worst elements of motorcycle riding and therefore, in this article, we have listed ways to avoid windblast

Motorcycle riding and trips have several pros, but they also come with a long list of cons. One of the worst elements of motorcycle riding is windblast at high speeds that often creates fatigue among riders and, at times, leads to accidents. Therefore, in this article, we have listed different ways to avoid windblast.

What is the importance of this article?

As mentioned in the above paragraph, windblast is one of the worst elements of riding. When a rider is doing above 100kmph or 150kmph, the windblast hits the chest of the rider with a substantial force, which leads to vibration or unnecessary movement of the body that could disturb the rider. In short, windblast is a dangerous thing and therefore, it is crucial to avoid windblast

Get an aerodynamically designed motorcycle

The first things first, get a motorcycle with great aerodynamics. In the market, every motorcycle is designed aerodynamically. However, fully-faired track-focused motorcycles and adventure-tourers have better aerodynamics because of their full or semi-fairing kit attached at the front. If one can afford motorcycles such as Yamaha R15, KTM RC series, Royal Enfield Himalayan, Honda CB200X or other motorcycles from these genres, the rider will have adequate protection from windblast.

However, if budget is an issue and one cannot purchase the motorcycles mentioned above or a motorcycle from the mentioned genres, worry not because there are other cheap methods to gain protection from the blast.

Install a windshield on your motorcycle

Given how the Indian motorcycle industry has evolved in recent years, there is no dearth of motorcycle customisation shops in the nation. Therefore, it is very easy to install an aftermarket windshield on any motorcycle. The cost of the windshield begins at INR 300-400 and goes up to INR 1,000 or 2,000 depending on the quality of the material. Installing expenditure of the shield is an extra INR 100-200. Not to forget, one can also attach an aftermarket fairing kit from those customisation shops.

Lastly, learn the art of tuck-in

Once the installation of the windshield is done, learn the art of tuck-in. One simply needs to bring his or her head and torso close to the fuel tank of the motorcycle, similar to what MotoGP racers do on the tracks. One can learn the method of tuck-in by watching a series of MotoGP races.
