In fact, they not only purchase new cars but also search for rare cars from history books, spending money like water on them.

2025 was different, as several cars were auctioned for prices higher than the GDPs of some small nations. As the year comes to an end, take a look at those cars and their price tags.

1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen

A race car, the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen, was driven by F1 legends like Juan Manuel Fangio and Sir Stirling Moss. Fangio won the 1955 Buenos Aires Grand Prix, whereas Moss set the fastest lap around Monza during the 1955 Italian Grand Prix. After retiring, the car was placed under the care of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Finally, this year, it was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s to a private buyer at INR 460.24 crore.

1964 Ferrari 250 LM

Another race car, the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, has also been under the care of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum since 1970. This Ferrari won the gruelling 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is the toughest endurance race on earth, in 1965 with the North American Racing Team. The 250 LM was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s at 316.54 crore.

2025 Ferrari Daytona SP3 ‘Tailor Made’

The SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ is one of the most exclusive cars ever made, with only 599 units produced worldwide. Powered by a 6.5-litre V12 engine that delivers a peak power of 829hp and 0 to 96 kilometres per hour in less than three seconds, the car, with a top speed of over 340 kilometres per hour, was auctioned for INR 238 crore. The sale was part of a charity auction, and the amount went to the Ferrari Foundation.

Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM

In this list, the cars mentioned above were not new. However, the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM is the most expensive brand-new car. Only five in the entire world, the car was created by former technical director of both the Brabham and McLaren Racing Formula 1 teams, Gordon Murray, and fetched a price of INR 185 crore.
