Some Interesting Facts about Airplanes

In the last few decades travelling on planes has become an integral part of our lives and boarding an airplane is not a luxury anymore where only rich people could afford to buy tickets. Today airfares have become quite affordable and anyone can buy them. Here we have made a list of five interesting facts about Airplanes.

Airplanes are built to Bear Lightning Strikes

Lightning striking airplanes is not something uncommon but airplanes have the capacity to withstand it.

During a flight journey, it’s quite possible that the airplanes are hit by lightning but the passengers never get to feel it as airplanes are built in a way that they can resist them. The body of airplanes is designed in such a way that it allows the electric charge from lightning to pass through the plane and get out of it, and it doesn’t cost any harm to the airplane.

There are Airplanes with Secret Bedroom for the Crew

On long international flights which are more than fifteen hours of journey, it’s quite possible that the flight crew gets tired and because of this, some airplanes have secret bedrooms to take rest.

Normally the flight crew works for around sixteen hours and it’s a long time to work continuously. It’s very much likely that the crew members get tired and to deal with this problem, few airplanes like the Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliners, have secret bedrooms for the crew to take a quick rest. These bedrooms are very small area-wise, hence passengers are not able to notice them.

Black Boxes are not of Black Colour

Contrary to the assumptions the colour of black boxes is not actually black and we still do not know why it’s called black box

The black box is another name for Flight Data Recorder, and its colour is orange instead of black as the name suggests. The paint used in the box is heat-resistant is orange in colour and it makes them simpler to find in case of an accident because other parts of the plane are never orange.

Why the Light of the Plane is dimmed while Landing

You must have wondered why the flight crew always dims the lights of the plane when it’s landing. Well, there is a reasonablepurpose behind it.

The reason behind dimmed lights of airplanes while landing is because in case of an emergency where landing goes badly and passengers are needed to be evacuated, their eyes will by now be adjusted to the darkness and they can evacuate easily. If the lights suddenly get off, it will be difficult for the eyes to adjust quickly and dimmed lights already make eyes adjust to the darkness.
