Madagascar Pochard is a very rare species of duck and it was believed that it was extinct for quite a few years. Around 20 Madagascar Pochards in the year 2006 were spotted at Lake Mastsaborimena. It is a medium-sized duck, which grows to 45-54 cm in length. They have attractive reddish-brown flanks, white bellies, and grayish beaks. In the same year, the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust started a breeding program for these ducks. By the year 2013, the number of these rare ducks increased to just 20 to 80 which is quite a feat. At present there are nearly 100 Madagascar Pochards available. They are protected very strictly by the authorities of Madagascar.
Most giraffe weevils live in the forests of Madagascar and their average body size is 2.5 cm. The most perceptible thing about it is, further than its long neck is the red covering of its rear legs and it’s called elytra. It utilizes these shells along with back wings in flight.
