The tales of mythical animals, supernatural beasts, beautiful fairies, etc. have spread across the world for centuries. Continuing from the first part of the story, here are a few more mythical creatures from across the globe.
When we hear the name gnomes, the image of cute-looking dwarfs comes into our minds. Gnomes are an important part of much European folklore and they look like small human beings like creatures, mostly old men who look very cute. They live in a world that is beneath our world and their king’s name is Gob, who carries a magical sword. Gnomes are positive characters in a few stories and evil in some.
Vampires are both human-like and bat-like creatures in various mythologies that suck human blood as their source of food. The most famous vampire is of course Dracula created by author Bram Stoker who reportedly modeled the character on Romanian Prince Vlad Tepes, more popularly known as Vlad the Impaler. While Dracula is a human-like creature but with long and sharp teeth, in many stories they look like monsters mostly resembling bats. Many movies and series were made on vampires and some of them are very famous like Van Helsing, Marvel’s Blade movies, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc.
The werewolf is a widespread concept in European folklore, existing in many variants. The most common story about werewolves is that if a human being is bitten by a wolf, a werewolf to be precise, then he becomes contaminated and by night turns into a wolf and searches for human flesh as food. In some stories, the contaminated person becomes a full wolf and in some stories, they are half wolf and half human. In many stories, werewolves have the power of shape-shifting and can transform themselves into either a wolf or a human. Werewolves were part of many fictitious books and movies. An upcoming Bollywood movie “Bhediya” based on werewolves is releasing soon and features actor Varun Dhawan as a werewolf.
