Virat Kohli retired from T20 at the age of 35 and bid goodbye to the Test format at 36
Once upon a time, it was Sachin Tendulkar who created records in every format of cricket – records that were unlikely to be shattered. And for years, no player was expected to get anywhere close to Tendulkar and his long list of milestones. However, Virat Kohli soon emerged, racking up runs and records at a rapid pace, making him the successor to Sachin Tendulkar.
Even though Kohli became a run machine, longevity became an issue as he bid goodbye to the Test and T20 formats. Despite his great numbers, he could not come close to Sachin Tendulkar, who played until 40. Therefore, we asked ChatGPT what Kohli’s career would have been like if he had also stayed on the crease until 40.
The results are impressive and surely shocking because ChatGPT gave two different directions.
Where Kohli Stands

Currently, Kohli, who only plays ODIs, stands at 27,599 runs and 82 international centuries. He retired from T20Is with 4,188 runs, whereas in Tests, he scored 9,230 runs. In ODI, where he remains active, Kohli has scored 14,181 runs.
What If
According to ChatGPT, Kohli’s career at 40 could be projected via two paths: conservative and optimistic.
In the conservative scenario, ChatGPT's calculated results on its form, which haven’t been great since 2022, are coupled with fitness. In Test, Kohli would’ve added another 1,400 runs, including four centuries.
ODI would see him adding 1,800 runs, including five centuries, whereas in T20I, he would’ve churned another 3,500 runs, including nine centuries. Overall, in a conservative scenario, Kohli’s stats at 40 would’ve been 31,099 runs with 91 international centuries, putting him close to Tendulkar.

Optimistic Kohli
In another scenario, ChatGPT calculated Kohli’s career, where he stayed at his peak till the age of 40.
This scenario would see Kohli score 2,500 runs, plus eight centuries in Test matches, followed by another 2,500 runs and nine centuries in ODIs. In T20I, he would’ve added more than 1,200 runs plus one century.

Versus Sachin Tendulkar
In the optimistic scenario, Virat Kohli would’ve missed Sachin Tendulkar’s total international runs, scoring 33,799 runs compared to Tendulkar’s 34,357 runs. However, in terms of total career centuries, Kohli would’ve equalled Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries.
Unfortunately, Kohli would not have surpassed Tendulkar’s every record; therefore, he would remain the second-best in terms of numbers, statistics, or records.
