'Maharaja' is Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film as an actor.
"... Vijay Sethupathi stands out in the action-packed revenge flick," wrote critic Goutham S in his review of 'Maharaja'.
Vijay Sethupathi has come a long way and has emerged as an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. The actor's latest release, 'Maharaja', has crossed the benchmark of ₹100 crore at the box office worldwide, and has secured its place as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year. According to Sacnilk, it has grossed around ₹76 crore in India and around ₹24 crore overseas. And it's expected to earn a total collection of around ₹105 crores by the end of its theatrical run.
It's undoubtedly a huge achievement, and we extend our best wishes to Sethupathi and the whole team of 'Maharaja' for this. Meanwhile, let's have a look at the actor's exciting lineup in this article.
'Gandhi Talks' is a silent film, and stars Vijay Sethupathi in a never-seen-before character named Mahadev. Directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar, the film also stars Arvind Swamy, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Siddharth Jadhav in pivotal roles.
The film premiered at the International Film Festival of India in 2023, becoming the first silent film to be screened there. Renowned critic S. R. Praveen wrote about the film, "Although 'Gandhi Talks' veers off course at times, the film deserves credit for Belekar’s daring to make a silent film with mainstream stars in an era when the call is for louder-than-the-previous “pan-Indian” films."
It has music composed by A. R. Rahman, cinematography by Karan B. Rawat, and editing by Ashish Mhatre. As of now, there's no update on its theatrical release.
'Viduthalai Part 1' was released last year, and emerged as a major critical and commercial success. The sequel, 'Viduthalai Part 2', will carry the story forward from where it ended in the previous part. Directed and co-produced by Vetrimaaran, the upcoming period crime thriller film follows a constable named Kumaresan who is tasked with arresting the leader of a separatist group.
Vijay Sethupathi reprises his role (Perumal Vaathiyaar, the leader of Makkal Padai) from the first film in 'Viduthalai Part 2'. Besides him, it will also feature Soori, Bhavani Sre, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, Chetan, Munnar Ramesh, and Saravana Subbiah in pivotal roles.
The film was screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this year. It's scheduled for a theatrical release in late 2024.
The upcoming film 'Ace' marks Sethupathi’s reunion with director Arumuga Kumar after the 2018 black comedy 'Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren'. Produced under the banner of 7Cs Entertainment, the film is touted to be an out-and-out commercial entertainer, featuring a blend of romance, action, comedy, and emotions.
Vijay Sethupathi will reportedly be seen as an intriguing character. Sandalwood actress Rukmini Vasanth, who has been part of films like 'Birbal' and 'Saptha Sagaradaache Ello', is making her debut in Tamil cinema with it. Besides, the film also stars Yogi Babu, BS Avinash, Divya Pillai, Babloo, and Rajkumar in supporting roles.
The film has been shot predominantly in Malaysia and is currently in its post-production stage.
With several exciting projects in his pipeline, Vijay Sethupathi is truly on a roll now. Let's extend our best wishes to him for all his upcoming endeavors!
