"... the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set." - James Gunn
Despite the backlashes about Henry Cavill being replaced by David Corenswet as the titular character, the upcoming film from the DC Studios, titled ‘Superman,’ has been immensely anticipated among fans ever since its announcement. Now, writer-director James Gunn recently announced that they have completed its shooting and that it will hit theatres next year. In his words, "... the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set - and for that, I am forever grateful.”

'Superman' Is The First Of An Upcoming Franchise
Yes, you read it absolutely right! DC Studios is developing a franchise (or a new cinematic universe) based on characters from DC Comics publications. And this film, ‘Superman’ is the first in that franchise/universe.
Created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the upcoming franchise (The DC Universe or DCU) is touted to be a "soft reboot" of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Both Gunn and Safran have revealed that all the films in this universe will be linked to one another.

It was actually David Zaslav's (CEO, Warner Bros. Discovery) idea to develop The DC Universe or DCU. He aims to revitalize the DC brand after the poor performances of several DCEU films.
James Gunn and Peter Safran have spent several months with a dedicated team of writers to design the franchise.

Just like 'Superman' is the first film in the DCU, 'Creature Commandos' (which will stream on Max from December 2024) is the first series in the universe. It's part of the DCU's 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters'. And it will be followed by series like 'Peacemaker', 'Waller', 'Lanterns', 'Paradise Lost', and 'Booster Gold' among others.
According to reports, 'Superman' will depict the character's "journey to reconcile his alien heritage with his human family". So, if you are a fan of DC comics, buckle up for an unparalleled cinematic experience ahead!
