Bad Newz Becomes Vicky Kaushal’s Biggest Opener: Do You Know The Actor Had Lost Out On These 4 Big-Ticket Films?

It’s Tauba Tauba time for Vicky Kaushal as his new romantic comedy Bad Newz has turned out to be his career's biggest opener.

Ever since Vicky Kaushal showcased his moves in Karan Aujhla's song Tauba Tauba from Bad Newz, he has been grabbing all the attention. Now with the release of the film, co-starring Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk, on July 19, the actor has yet again proved his magic on the silver screen with the romantic comedy. Helmed by Anand Tiwari, the film witnessed an opening collection of Rs 8.50 crore in India on Friday. Backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, the film has managed to beat Vicky Kaushal’s 2019 hit Uri: The Surgical Strike to become Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opening in his career so far.

While he is basking in the glory of his latest release, it cannot go unnoticed that the actor has had a diverse acting range, and has delivered fabulous performances in several critically acclaimed films including Masaan, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Sardar Udham and Sam Bahadur. However, the National Film Award-winning actor has also lost out on some big-ticket films that went to other A-list actors. Let’s have a look at them:

  1. Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Did you know Vicky Kaushal and his wife Katrina Kaif were almost set to star in a film together? Well, according to Indian Express, the actor had auditioned to play Shah Rukh Khan’s best friend Zain Mirza in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and we all know that the film starred Katrina Kaif as well. However, the actor was not finalised and the makers believed that he didn’t suit the role. The role eventually went to Vicky’s Zara Hatke Zara Bachke co-star Sharib Hashmi.

  1. Stree

As per a report in India Today, Vicky Kaushal was actually the first choice to play Rajkummar Rao’s character Vicky in Stree. However, Vicky rejected the lead part in the horror comedy, which went on to become Rao’s biggest hit in Bollywood. Stree's sequel titled Stree 2 is now slated to release on Independence Day 2024.

  1. 83

Vicky Kaushal was reportedly offered the role of veteran cricketer Mohinder Amarnath aka Jimpa in Ranveer Singh’s 83, which is based on Team India’s iconic 1983 Cricket World Cup win. However, the actor denied the supporting role, and eventually Saqib Saleem played the role of Mohinder Amarnath in 83.

  1. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Vicky Kaushal had also auditioned for the role of Farhan Akhtar’s friend in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which is based on the life of celebrated Olympian Milkha Singh. However, he was not taken on board, and the actor had himself revealed to Hauterrfly, via Times of India, that his audition for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was “horrible”.

Interestingly, do you also know that Vicky Kaushal was going to reject Uri: The Surgical Strike as well, but his father and action director Sham Kaushal told him not to do so. And guess what? It eventually became Vicky’s breakthrough film in Bollywood.
