The ‘Veep’ cast and Stephen Colbert reunite for a virtual table read to support Wisconsin Democrats.
The cast of HBO’s ‘Veep’ and late-night host Stephen Colbert are set to reunite for a virtual table read event on September 29, supporting the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. This fundraiser, which has raised millions in previous election cycles, comes amid a ‘Veep’ resurgence fueled by Kamala Harris’ political rise. Julia Louis-Dreyfus recently announced that she and her co-stars from the hit political satire, alongside Colbert, will come together for this live-streamed event at 7 p.m. CT, benefiting the party as Harris campaigns in the crucial battleground state ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Louis-Dreyfus suggested “I have an idea: What if we get the cast back together for a virtual table read of that episode all in support of helping Dems win up and down the ballot in Wisconsin?”

The show has often been compared to Vice President Kamala Harris’ own rise to becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, with viewership data showing a spike in people revisiting the series. This marks the third time the state Democratic Party has hosted an event with the ‘Veep’ cast, following similar efforts in 2020 and 2022, the latter featuring the cast of ‘The West Wing.’ During the pandemic, the party’s virtual events, like one with the cast of ‘The Princess Bride,’ gained popularity. The ‘Veep’ cast reunited virtually in 2020 to support Joe Biden's presidential campaign in Wisconsin, a key swing state. It's no surprise Wisconsin was chosen for this star-studded fundraiser—it’s one of the key battleground states that could decide the outcome of the presidential race. As Harris campaigns there, the event will benefit the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
The cast will reunite for a special table read of the episode ‘Crate,’ where fictional Vice President Selina Meyer learns that the president is stepping down, propelling her into the presidency. This pivotal moment from the series will come to life again as the stars of ‘Veep’ revisit one of the show’s defining episodes. Cast members including Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Gary Cole, Matt Walsh, and others are expected to join the upcoming reunion event.
‘Veep’ is a political satire comedy that aired on HBO from April 22, 2012, to May 12, 2019, created by Armando Iannucci. The show centers on Selina Meyer, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, a fictional Vice President of the United States, and chronicles her and her team's chaotic attempts to shape their legacy, often derailed by petty political maneuvering. Spanning seven seasons, the series earned widespread acclaim and multiple awards, including three consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series.
