Director Amole Gupte gave the perfect tribute to a friend and close person in his life
Taare Zameen Par is undoubtedly one of the finest films ever made in India. In 2007, when the Indian masses were unaware of various disorders, the Amir Khan-led film highlighted dyslexia.
The film was an eye-opener to millions of Indian parents and was a commercial and critical hit. Amir Khan nailed his role, but more than him, Darsheel Safary, who was only nine years old in 2007, stole the limelight with his natural acting.
However, one more character received praise for his work, but only for a short while. Years later, people remember Amir Khan and Darsheel Safary, but nobody remembers Rajan Damodaran, an incredibly special character played by Tanay Chheda.
For those who have yet to watch Taare Zameen Par, Rajan Damodaran, played by Tanay, was a student with polio. When Ishaan was sent to a new school, where he was mocked by almost every student and teacher, Damodaran was the only one who supported him.
Taare Zaman Par was directed by Amole Gupte, and Rajan Damodaran was Gupte’s friend and classmate in school. Gupte’s friend is a doctor in Mumbai.
Recently, a clip of Amol Gupte meeting his old friend Rajan Damodaran went viral on the internet.
In the clip, a background voice of Gupte says, “In Taare Zameen Par, I had to bring my friend…my friend with polio. Rajan, mere dost, tujhe kaise bhulta main? (Rajan, my friend, how can I forget you?) 50 years ago, we were together in school. Big tribute to you.”
