From that day on, Sachin continued to redefine what was possible in cricket, becoming a true legend of the game

India's master blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, stood as the epitome of batting in world cricket. Known for his countless records and flawless batsmanship, Sachin achieved a significant milestone 30 years ago today. After over five years of playing in 78 matches without a hundred in ODIs, he finally reached the elusive three-figure mark.

\He broke this jinx against Australia in Colombo in 1994. This first century in limited-overs cricket marked the beginning of many more, showcasing his remarkable skill and determination. From that day on, Sachin continued redefining what was possible in cricket, becoming a true legend.

A young star rises

The match was part of a quadrangular series featuring India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Australia. Then, at just 21, Sachin Tendulkar opened the innings for Mohammad Azharuddin's team. India chose to bat first, with Tendulkar and Manoj Prabhakar facing the mighty Australian pace attack.

Both started strong until Prabhakar fell to Shane Warne. Tendulkar took his time to settle, playing fluently despite losing partners at the other end. He crafted a crucial knock of 110 runs, including eight fours and two sixes. His batting masterclass led India to a 32-run victory, highlighting his emerging dominance in world cricket.

A moment to remember

India reached the hundred mark in the 18th over, thanks to a young Sachin Tendulkar's quick fifty off just 43 balls. Tendulkar scored 110 off 132 balls, helping India post 246/8 in 50 overs.

The Indian bowlers held their nerve, restricting Australia to 215 and securing a 31-run victory. India went on to win the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final. However, Tendulkar's first century stood out, becoming a cherished memory for every cricket fan and marking the beginning of a legendary career.

The legendary path to 100

The world witnessed Sachin Tendulkar score 48 more ODI centuries, cementing his place as the highest run scorer in the format to this day. His last international century also came in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2012. History was made in Mirpur when Tendulkar reached the extraordinary milestone of 100 international centuries.

That innings secured his place in the record books and solidified his status as the only cricketer ever to achieve this feat. Sachin's journey from his first century to his hundredth remains an unmatched story in the world of cricket.

The start of a record-breaking career

Tendulkar scored his first Test century before achieving an ODI hundred. At just 17 years and 112 days old, he became the third-youngest to score a Test century. It took him eight Tests to reach his first international hundred, scoring 119 not out off 189 balls in the fourth innings to help India draw against England in 1990. This performance also earned him his first Player of the Match award.

With 15,921 Test runs, 18,426 ODI runs, and 100 hundreds, Tendulkar became the top scorer in both formats of cricket after making his debuts in Tests in November 1989 and ODIs in December of the same year. He played in six World Cups for India, and his inclusion in the 2011 World Cup-winning team marked the pinnacle of an illustrious 24-year career.
