In T20Is, he holds the record for the most number of catches by a player.

Known as "Killer Miller" for his powerful hitting in white-ball cricket, David Miller has firmly established himself as a formidable force in South Africa's batting lineup. Over the years, Miller has faced his share of ups and downs, but his reputation as a dangerous lower-order batsman remains intact. He made his international debut in 2010, becoming a crucial part of South Africa's cricket fabric. Today, as he turns 35, we look closer at some of the records he holds.

David Miller and JP Duminy celebrate their victory at Hamilton.

Fifth wicket highest partnership

Miller and JP Duminy's record-breaking fifth-wicket partnership propelled South Africa to 339/4 against Zimbabwe in the ICC World Cup 2015 match at Seddon Park, Hamilton. Miller's explosive innings included nine sixes, the most in World Cup history, as he scored 138 runs off 92 balls. Duminy contributed with a 100-ball 115. Their unbeaten 256-run stand set a new fifth-wicket partnership record in World Cup history, surpassing previous records held by Roger Twose, Chris Cairns, Eoin Morgan, and Ravi Bopara (226*). Zimbabwe's early bowling success faltered as Miller and Duminy took control, guiding South Africa to a dominant position.

Highest run by the fifth batter

In the third T20 match between India and South Africa, Miller scored an unbeaten 106, but it wasn't enough to chase down India's formidable target of 237 in 2022. Miller's innings were historic, as his 106 not out is the highest score by a batsman in the number 5 position in T20Is. His stunning knock came off just 47 balls in a 174-run partnership with Quinton de Kock. Despite their valiant effort, South Africa fell short by 16 runs on an evening where more than 450 runs were scored. India also made history on Sunday by clinching their first-ever series victory over South Africa in the T20I format at home.

David Miller recorded the fastest century in T20 international history at Senwes Park.

Fastest century by South African

Miller set the record for the fastest T20I century regarding balls faced.

He achieved this remarkable feat in a T20I against Bangladesh in 2017, taking just 35 balls to reach the 100-run mark. Miller, who was dropped on zero, scored an unbeaten 101 off 36 balls, including nine sixes and seven fours. His explosive innings surpassed the previous record held by his former teammate, Richard Levi, who had scored a century in 45 balls. Nearly two months later, Rohit Sharma matched Miller's record by scoring a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka. Miller remains the fastest centurion in T20Is for South Africa and is tied for the second-fastest century in T20Is worldwide.

The second-highest run scorer for South Africa

Miller has represented South Africa in 173 ODIs, amassing 4,458 runs at an impressive average of 42.05. His tally includes six centuries and 24 fifties, highlighting his consistency and ability to play significant innings. In T20Is, Miller scored 2,268 runs from 116 matches, making him the second-highest run scorer for South Africa. He is among the elite batters to have scored a T20I century, a testament to his explosive batting prowess and capability to dominate in the game's shortest format.

The most number of catches in T20I

Miller is not only a formidable batsman but also an exceptional fielder. In T20Is, he holds the record for the most number of catches by a player. In his 116 matches, he has taken 77 catches, showcasing his sharp reflexes and reliable fielding skills.

With the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024, we wish David Miller all the best and hope he breaks several records. Happy Birthday, Killer Miller!
