On This Day (July 22) - Armaan Malik's Birthday: The First Indian Singer To Feature On Times Square Billboard, New York

The celebrated singer is known for his work in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Music runs in his veins as everyone from his father to uncle to grandfather is a musician. And it didn't take him long to recognize his inclination towards music. He started singing at the tender age of four and soon came to the national limelight thanks to a popular reality show. While most contestants on such shows fail to maintain their "early fame" later in their careers, he went ahead only from strength to strength along the way. At the age of 12, he made his debut as a child singer with 'Taare Zameen Par'. In 2014, he officially started his journey as a playback singer with the Salman Khan-starrer, 'Jai Ho'. The rest, as they say, is history!

It's Armaan Malik we are talking about, who is inarguably one of India's most talented, and obviously most celebrated, singers in India today. He is blessed with that mellifluous voice that penetrates deep into souls and leaves us in awe. Also, he can effortlessly sing in various languages, delivering the exact emotions required. And not to mention he has that charming persona that is reflected in all his renditions.

"Music is my whole freaking life. It's not something I do just for a living, it makes me feel like I'm living." - Armaan Malik

The singer-songwriter-record producer turns 29 today. On this occasion, we share an interesting fact about him that you probably didn't know.

Armaan Malik Is The First Indian Singer To Feature On Times Square Billboard, New York

Yes, you read it absolutely right! The kind of success that Armaan Malik has achieved at such a young age is truly unmatched.

In 2020, Malik created history by becoming the first Indian singer-songwriter to be featured on the Times Square Billboard in New York City. And that happened thanks to his English single debut, "Control", which was promoted by Spotify.

Sharing the picture on his social media handle, he wrote, "DREAMS. VISIONS. ALL COMING TRUE, AND HOW! That’s my face on a Times Square Billboard! I’d have given anything to be there and witness this in person, but it’s extremely important for us to stay safe and indoors right now and I urge you to do the same. Big thank you to Spotify for supporting Control and making this happen, and thank you to all of you for giving my first English single so much love. It’s time for India to shine in."

When Armaan Malik Spoke About The Remarkable Honor

In one of his interviews, Malik spoke about being featured on Times Billboard, saying, "It’s a huge honor for an Indian artist to be on a Times Square billboard. I’ve always wanted to take India to the world with my music and this is like a dream come true, especially for my first English single. This wouldn’t have been possible without my amazing team, family, and my fans and their endless love and support."

Speaking about his idea of success, he said, "The driving force for me to keep going is the hunger I have for bigger dreams and aspirations immediately after I achieve something huge. I don’t get too happy with any accomplishment and I feel that’s a good way to keep the fire burning. I believe a lot in higher power and patience. Every time I ask myself the question ‘now what?’, the universe asks me to wait and be patient, it’s all going to happen."

Notably, the song, "Control", was recorded in Los Angeles with renowned music producer Wayne Wilkins. It's a song about relationships, inspired by Malik's own experiences.
