The player in question is not even one of the best the tournament has ever produced, and yet, he won the trophy three times in a row
There is no doubt that the Indian Premier League is a tournament that showcases immense skill and talent from players as they compete to win matches and trophies. However, at times, luck also plays a crucial role in helping players at the mid-tier level succeed. For example, in the history of the IPL, only one player has ever won the trophy three times in a row.
Now, don’t misunderstand us, but he is certainly not among the best players the tournament has ever produced. In fact, today, many may not even remember his name. Yet, luck favoured him, and he was in the right place at the right time with the right team, which is why this rare record belongs to him.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
In 2016, the player in question played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who beat the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final and won the tournament. The player played only five matches, scoring 36 runs but picking up no wickets. He wasn’t even part of the final match of the tournament.

The next year, he was picked up by the Mumbai Indians and surprisingly had a better season, picking up 13 wickets in nine matches. However, with the bat, his performances were poor, as he scored only 41 runs. In 2017, while playing for the Mumbai Indians, he appeared in the final match, scoring only one run and conceding 18 runs in four overs as a bowler.

In 2018, the player moved once again, securing a place in the Chennai Super Kings' camp, but played only six matches. In six games, he picked up four wickets but made no runs. In the final against his former team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, the player conceded 25 runs in three overs but took one wicket. However, the rest of the Chennai bowlers restricted Hyderabad to 178 runs, and Chennai won the match.
The player’s name is Karn Sharma, who played 90 IPL games, picking 83 wickets while scoring 351 runs. His last season was with the Mumbai Indians, but the team released him, and no other team offered him a contract. Therefore, Sharma will not appear in the 2026 edition.
