Despite becoming the leading lady in several films, every time Tara Sutaria comes on the screen, she brings a dose of nostalgia and takes us back to our childhood days

Over the years, Bollywood has given birth to several child actors. Some of these enjoyed stardoms in their childhood but failed to capture the hearts of the audience when they grew older. However, Tara Sutaria is in a different league of child actors who have grown up to become stars.

The actor, who is turning 30 this November, was one of the most vibrant faces on children's television channels in the 2010s. And now, although she has become the leading lady in several films, she keeps dashing a dose of nostalgia every time she appears on the big screen.

Relatable acting

Tara Sutaria’s debut into Bollywood was marked by Student of the Year 2, a film with a poor script that offered little to no entertainment value. However, from bringing a teenager on Disney Channel to a college girl, SOTY 2 gave us Sutaria, whose acting had a reminiscence of her teenage days, and therefore, her presence felt like a time machine had taken us back to 2010.

Another fact about Tara that takes us back to the past is her physical appearance, which has remained unchanged. While most actors undergo surgery and cosmetic work as they age, Sutaria’s face has matured, but her overall appearance has remained relatively unchanged. Be it on stage or screen, every time Tara appears, she reminds us of Nikki, Vinnie, or Jassie – IYKYK!

Music videos, if not movies

After SOTY 2, Tara Sutaria tried her luck with intense roles in movies such as Tadap, Ek Villain Returns, Heropanti 2, and Apurva. Out of these four, the only movie that worked in her favour, be it from a script point of view or her acting prowess, was Apurva. The film proved that Sutaria isn’t only about jolly and bubbly teenage characters. However, in the process of doing so, Sutaria moved away from the feel-good aura she brought on screen.

Fortunately, when the other mentioned movies did not work in her favour, she found her way through music videos that gave us Sutaria in a fresh avatar, reminding us of her childhood days and ours. Whether it was her ballet moves in Prateek Kuhad’s 'Mulaqat' or 'Thodi Si Daru' alongside AP Dhillon and Shreya Ghoshal, Sutaria found ways to radiate positive energy on screen.

With no releases this year, Tara Sutaria will be next seen in Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups in 2026, and it will be interesting to see if Sutaria carries on with her positive feel-good aura or tests herself in a new genre of acting.
