"When I look at the work Varun is doing, I forget everything I've done so far." - David Dhawan

It’s an "area of expertise" for both the Dhawans, and given their track record in the genre, the upcoming film has already created lots of buzz in the media. Reports suggest that it will feature Mrunal Thakur and Sreeleela as the female leads, and also some of the most renowned comic actors in the industry.

The film, titled 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', is produced by Ramesh Taurani under his banner TIP Entertainment. According to a Pinkvilla report, it has recently gone on floors with its first schedule in Mumbai. And with this film, the senior Dhawan aims to bring back the magic that his films are known for.
It's scheduled for theatrical release on 2nd October, 2025. As we await the film to further materialize, let's have a look at the Dhawan duo's successful collaborations over the years.
'Main Tera Hero', one of Varun Dhawan's highest-grossing films, marked his maiden collaboration with his father, David Dhawan. The film stars Junior Dhawan as Shrinath Prasad aka Seenu who gets trapped in a love triangle. Ileana D'Cruz and Nargis Fakhri appear as the female leads, while the other cast members include Arunoday Singh, Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav, Saurabh Shukla, and Manoj Pahwa among others.

Taran Adarsh wrote about the film in his review, "On the whole, MAIN TERA HERO is a wild, wacky, madcap entertainer that has the unmistakable stamp of the master of entertainers – David Dhawan. Varun Dhawan pulls off the act with flamboyance and bowls you over with an uproarious act in this zany entertainer."
Made on a budget of ₹29 crore, the film grossed over ₹78 crore at the box office.
'Judwaa 2' is a reboot of David Dhawan's own 1977 film 'Judwaa' (a remake of the Telugu film 'Hello Brother'). The film stars Varun Dhawan as twins, Raja and Prem, opposite Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu. It's an out-and-out comedy flick with a no-brainer story, over-the-top characters, and loud performances.

Speaking about the film, senior Dhawan shared in an interview, "I was not writing a new script. There are some 8 – 10 scenes from ‘Judwaa’ that I loved and that made me make this film."
The film received mostly negative reviews from critics, however, emerged as a massive commercial success with a collection of ₹227.59 crores.
'Coolie No. 1' skipped theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was released on Amazon Prime Video. Despite its negative reviews, the film received a huge number of viewership within a short span of time, setting a new benchmark for mainstream Bollywood cinema.
Directed by David Dhawan and starring Varun Dhawan in dual roles, 'Coolie No. 1' is a reboot of the 1995 film of the same name, which itself is a remake of the 1993 Tamil film 'Chinna Mapillai'. Besides Junior Dhawan, it also stars Sara Ali Khan, Paresh Rawal, Jaaved Jaaferi, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, and Sahil Vaid among others.
