UCL 2024/25: Five Clashes in the Recent Past That Saw Bayern Dominate the Cules

Bayern Munich is on a six-match winning streak against the Cules and will hope to extend it with a seventh win

Bayern Munich versus Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League is one of the most hyped rivalries, despite Munich having an upper hand over Barcelona since 1996. The two teams have met on 13 occasions, with Bayern securing the win 10 times, whereas Barcelona has won only two games so far. Despite such a marginal difference in the two teams' performance, the clash between the two sides often sees multiple cards, players taking on each other, and a plethora of goals.

Ahead of the October 24 clash, let us revisit the last five clashes between Munchen and the Blaugrana, given in the present UCL standings, Bayern sits in the 15th place, whereas Barcelona is in the 16th place. Therefore, the game is extremely crucial for both sides, as a win could put one of them in the top seven.

2022/23 – Group C

In the 2022/23 season of the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish giant and the esteemed German outfit were put together in Group C. The first clash was played at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern winning the game by 2-0. Barcelona had more shots, possession, passes, and pass accuracy with a lesser number of fouls, but the Cules simply could not convert a goal. From Dembele to Lewandowski and the duo of Pedri and Gavi, all fell shot when it came to slotting into the nets.

The second game at Barcelona's home Nou Camp witnessed a further poor performance from the home side as Bayern netted three goals. Barcelona had zero shots on target, whereas Bayern had eight.

2021/22 – Group E

The 2021/22 season saw the two teams placed together in Group E of the UCL. While Robert Lewandowski failed to score for Barcelona against Bayern, back in the 201/22 season when he was a Bayern player, he scored two goals in this clash, whereas Thomas Mueller scored another to give Bayern a 3-0 victory for Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

Bayern also won again by three goals in the away clash at the Allianz Arena, with Mueller, Leroy Sane, and Jamal Musiala scoring.

2020/21 – Quarter-finals

This quarter-final match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich proved to be the most embarrassing game in Lionel Messi's career. After all, Bayern Munich ran riot by scoring eight goals against Barcelona, as the Cules's side, comprising Messi and Suarez up front, remained clueless. However, only Suarez managed to score one goal, whereas an own goal by David Alaba gave Barcelona its second. The match ended with a horrific scoreboard reading of 8-2. Not a night Barcelona would ever want to relive.

2014/15 -- Semi-finals

Ten years ago, Barcelona won the semi-finals on aggregate, but in the away match at the Allianz Arena, the team lost the game 3-2. Neymar scored a brace for the Cules, whereas Lewandowski and Mueller were the consistent performers for Bayern, scoring one goal each. Benatia added a third, and this game marked the beginning of Bayern's winning streak against Barcelona.
