India’s first film, made entirely by an Indian crew, was Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra in 1913.
The nation’s first documentary, Wrestlers, was made in 1899 by India’s first documentary filmmaker, Sakharam Bhatavdekar, aka Save Dada.
Dadasaheb’s second film, named Lanka Dahan, used special effects for the first time in the Indian film industry.
In Lanka Dahan, Anna Salunke performed the first double role by portraying the characters of both Lord Ram and Goddess Sita.
In 1937, Kisan Kanya was the first Indian film to be made in colour.
