Shawn Mendes is back and ready to dazzle after a two-year hiatus.

Shawn Mendes is making a return to the music scene with his eagerly awaited new album, ‘Shawn,’ set for release on October 18. This album marks the end of a two-year break for the artist. Fans won't have to wait long for a taste of his new work, as two singles, ‘Why Why Why’ and ‘Isn't That Enough,’ will be released on August 8, coinciding with the three-time Grammy nominee's 26th birthday. Mendes made the announcement via his social media, sharing a striking black-and-white video teaser from the album, which will feature 12 tracks. According to press notes, Shawn is described as his “most musically intimate and lyrically honest work to date.” Let's take a look at some of his pre-20 accomplishments.

He surpassed his own record for the most No. 1 songs

With ‘In My Blood,’ Mendes became the first artist under 20 to have four No. 1 songs on Billboard's Adult Pop chart, surpassing his own previous record of three No. 1 songs. All of his studio albums—’Handwritten’ (2015), ‘Illuminate’ (2016), and ‘Wonder’ (2020)—debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. This remarkable achievement makes him the third-youngest musician in history to reach this milestone.

He won 3 Juno Awards

Mendes was first nominated for his first Juno Award in 2015 as Breakthrough Artist of the Year. He has since been nominated another 11 times and has managed to take home three awards: 2017 Fan Choice Award and then again in 2018, and 2018 Single of the Year for ‘There's Nothing Holding Me Back.’

Mendes performed for Queen Elizabeth

The Queen celebrated her 92nd birthday with a star-studded concert featuring personalities such as Kylie Minogue, Sting, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Shawn Mendes. Mendes had the honor of performing in front of the Queen at Royal Albert Hall. He also had the chance to meet Harry and Meghan, but he told Ellen he got cold feet and didn't introduce himself.

Portugal adopted ‘In My Blood’ as their official World Cup song

Although not many fans are aware, Shawn Mendes is part British and part Portuguese on his father's side. When Portugal adopted ‘In My Blood’ as their official World Cup song, Mendes re-recorded the song in Portuguese.

He served as the opening act for Taylor Swift on her 1989 tour

It was a huge deal to have a co-sign from Taylor Swift, and in 2015 Mendes got to perform for thousands of her fans as the opening act on her 1989 tour. Swift even had 60,000 fans serenade Mendes with ‘Happy Birthday!’ on his 17th birthday.
