T20 WC 2026: Tournament's Major Stats at a Glance, Ranging From Most Runs to Wickets

Ahead of the tournament, let us look at some of the top numbers from the tournament at the player and team level

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is here, but there are a few hours left before the delivery of the first bowl. Ahead of the West Indies versus Scotland game, which is this year’s opening clash, check out some of the top stats/records of the tournament at the player and team level.

Team records

Maximum titles

Starting off with the champions of the tourney, to date, only three teams have lifted the trophy thrice. The three teams are West Indies, India and England. Other champions, such as Australia, Sri Lanka, and PAK, have only done it once.

Highest total

The tournament has witnessed Sri Lanka posting the highest tournament score in the team’s history. In 2007, the debut year of the tournament, Sri Lanka scored 260 runs against Kenya in Johannesburg. Kenya scored only 88 runs in response, resulting in a 172-run victory for Sri Lanka, which became the largest victory margin by runs in the tournament's history.

Lowest total

Two teams hold this embarrassing record, scoring the same number of runs in two different games. In a match between Uganda and the West Indies, Uganda could score only 39 runs, whereas in another game comprising the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, the Netherlands also managed only 39 runs. Therefore, the two teams share this record.

Individual records

Most runs

Unsurprisingly, Virat Kohli leads the way in scoring the highest number of runs in the tournament's history. The ex-T20I player retired from the format with 1,292 runs scored in 35 matches at an average of 58.72.

Highest score

Moving on to the highest runs scored in a single match, the record belongs to former New Zealander Brendon McCullum, who scored 123 runs in 72 balls versus Bangladesh in 2012. His innings included 11 fours and seven maximums.

Most ducks

An embarrassing record for sure, PAK’s former player Shahid Afridi is at the top for getting out on a duck on five occasions in the tournament in 32 innings. Sri Lanka’s Dilshan also had five ducks, but he played 34 innings.

Maximum wickets

In the bowling department, Shakib Al Hasan leads the way with the greatest number of wickets grabbed in the tournament’s history. In 43 matches, he scalped 50 wickets while maintaining an economy of 6.86.

Most dismissals

Last but not least, the maximum number of dismissals in the tournament’s history is none other than India’s former skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In 33 matches, Dhoni made 32 dismissals between 2007 and 2016.
