IPL 2026: The Last Time CSK Lost First Four Games of the Season

In the 2026 season so far, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have lost the first three matches

On Saturday evening, i.e., April 11, bottom-placed Chennai Super Kings will clash against fourth-placed Delhi Capitals. The Yellow Army has not won the first three games of the season, going into the fourth match without a victory or a point. For the record, this is only the second season since 2008 that CSK has lost the first three matches.

In 2022, Chennai had a similar run, so here’s a look back at the only season when CSK had lost the first four games and opened their book in the fifth game.

In that IPL season, CSK started their campaign against KKR with a defeat. Batting first, CSK could only post 131 runs on the board, with 28 runs coming off Robin Uthappa’s bat, whereas Ravindra Jadeja made 26 runs. In response, the Knights had an effortless chase, reaching the target at 18.3 overs at the expense of merely four wickets.

CSK vs. LSG

In the second game, it felt like CSK was in sixth gear and did well to recover in the batting department, hitting 210 runs against the LSG bowlers. However, CSK’s bowlers did not live up to the expectation and failed to contain the likes of Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni, who took the game away.

CSK vs. PBKS

In the second game, CSK met PBKS, who ran riot against the CSK bowlers in the first innings. PBSK put 180 runs on the board while losing eight wickets, and the bowlers, too, did well in the second innings. CSK once again displayed poor batting as their entire line-up was wrapped up at 126 runs.

The third game also saw CSK batters struggle to put big runs on the board, with only 153 runs on target against SRH. SRH had no trouble chasing the target as they ended the match in 17.4 overs while losing only two wickets. CSK lost their fourth game of the 2022 season.

CSK vs. RCB

Finally, on March 22, 2022, CSK, in its fifth game of the season, recorded its first victory, defeating RCB. Batting first, CSK posted 216 as a target, but unlike in the first four games, in this match, CSK bowlers, especially Maheesh Theekshana and Ravindra Jadeja, nailed the RCB batting line-up, taking 4 and 3 wickets, respectively.

In the ongoing season, will CSK win the fourth game? Also, what if the team loses the fourth and fifth as well? If that happens, CSK will script a new but embarrassing record for itself in the team’s glorious history.
