T20 WC 2026: IND vs. ENG – From Head-to-Head to Recent Results

It’s been over three years since England has won a game against India in a T20I

India and England are once again set to go up against each other in another ICC T20 World Cup semi-final, having clashed in 2024 and 2022. Ahead of the battle at the Wankhede on March 5, let us look at how the teams have fared against each other in T20Is and the result from their last series.

Head-to-head

In the T20 format of the game, India and England have played 29 matches against each other. Out of the 29 games, the Men in Blue have been victorious on 17 occasions, whereas the Three Lions won the other 12 matches.

Ten of India's victories were at home, four were grabbed in away matches, and three were at a neutral location. On the other hand, England won five games at home and six matches away with one victory in a neutral setting.

Surprisingly, no game between the two sides has ever ended in a tie.

The last clash

It has been more than a year since the two sides last played a T20I against each other. In January 2025, during the England Tour of India, England played five T20I games against India, losing four and winning only one. In two of the matches, i.e., the first and fifth, India won by big margins of seven wickets and 150 runs, respectively.

In that series, Abhishek Sharma was the top scorer with 279 runs, so India will hope that Sharma recreates the same kind of magic again when it matters the most. From the bowling department, Varun Chakaravarthy lit the series on fire with 14 wickets in five matches.

Head-to-head in the World Cup and semi-final

In the T20 World Cup, the two sides have played five matches against each other, with India winning three and England winning two. Out of the five games, two were semi-final games, and both sides ended up winning one each.

Last game in the World Cup

The last game between the two sides in the T20 World Cup was on June 27, 2024, when India and England met in the semi-final. The Men in Blue scripted a dominating victory by winning the game by 68 runs. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav scored 57 and 47 runs, respectively, whereas Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked up three wickets each to dismantle England’s chase.

On Thursday, will England fight back, or will India increase its lead and make it into the final? All we can do is pray and hope for the best for our Men in Blue.
