T20 WC 2026: An Overview of India's T20I Record Across Five Indian Venues

The tournament is being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, and in India, five stadiums will take care of the matches

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is around the corner, and five Indian stadiums are all set to handle the matches. For the unversed souls, this year’s World Cup is being jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with five stadiums selected to host matches in India, whereas in Sri Lanka, three venues will take care of several games.

As India inches toward its campaign opener, let us check out India’s T20I record at the five Indian venues -- Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

At one of India’s iconic cricketing grounds, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Men in Blue enjoy a decent T20I record. At the venue, India has so far played 12 T20I matches, having won seven and lost five. Since 2018, India has played six games at this venue and has won all six of the games. The last victory in this stadium for India was against England in January 2025.

Wankhede Stadium is a historic venue for India, given that the Men in Blue had lifted the ODI World Cup trophy in 2011 at this location. However, compared to Eden Gardens, India has played only six T20I matches in Wankhede. The team has won four, whereas two matches ended in the opponent’s favour. The last win was also against England last year, when India registered a victory by 150 runs.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium is also significant in India’s cricketing history. However, the stadium has had very limited opportunities in the T20I format, because of which India has played only three T20I games here. Out of three matches, India has won two games and lost one. India’s last T20I clash at this venue was against England last year as part of a T20I series, and India won that game by two wickets.

This stadium has not been a fruitful venue for India in the past few years, but for reasons unknown, it is once again set to host the final of the tournament in case PAK fails to reach the last round. The Men in Blue have played eight T20I games at this venue, having won six and lost two. The team’s last match was against South Africa, which the Men in Blue won by 30 runs.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in India’s capital city, New Delhi, India has a history of playing only four T20I matches with a record of two victories and two defeats. India’s last game at this venue was in 2024 against Bangladesh, which the home side won by 86 runs.

Overall, in all the stadiums, India, being the home side, has more results in favour, and given India’s squad depth and star power, the team should at least reach the final of the tourney.
