Singapore remains the top priority for Indian travellers this summer: report

With much of the world’s population now vaccinated and with global travel picking up, Singapore is receiving a significant share of visitor traffic.

This is because it was one of the first in the region to reopen its borders with no quarantine and is also perceived to be a safe destination having seen to have handled the coronavirus outbreak well.

The findings of the study:

Singapore saw the highest international flight bookings from India for leisure travel this summer, a study has found, with the travel market showing strong signs of recovery since the pandemic. Leisure travel bookings from India have gone up by 40 per cent for June-August 2023 as compared to the same period last year, the study by travel-intent platform Adara has found.

San Francisco, Melbourne, Toronto and Bali received the highest flight bookings from India after Singapore, the report says.

For Indian couples, the popular travel choices, in terms of bookings this summer, are United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Among Asian countries, Bali and Singapore remain the most popular choices.

For family travellers, the US, Singapore, the UAE, Canada and Thailand are the most popular destinations from India, the study has found.

For solo travellers, the US, Canada and the UK are the most popular destinations. Bookings by solo travellers on work are the highest to Qatar and the UAE.

The most popular western destinations for Indian couples this summer are the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in terms of flight bookings, a study has found.

Steps taken by Singapore’s Changi Airport:

With the number of visitors to Singapore rising rapidly, Singapore’s Changi Airport has been kept busy. Last year, the airport reopened Terminal 4, which has a capacity to handle 16 million passengers a year and airlines that will be moving there include Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Air Asia, and Cebu Pacific. This is not surprising as passenger and aircraft traffic at Changi has been soaring in the last couple of months.

Words from Keith Tan:

Keith Tan, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board, said, “The encouraging growth in visitor arrivals and tourism receipts signals strong pent-up demand, and underscores Singapore’s continued appeal as a vibrant and attractive destination for leisure and business travellers. While the pandemic is certainly not over yet, we are confident that Singapore’s very rich calendar of events, as well as new and refreshed tourism offerings, will continue to attract visitors.”
