The Bear has set a new record by scoring a whopping 23 nominations this year at the Emmys.
At the recently concluded Emmy 2024 nominations, The Bear went on to make a comedy-series record of 23 while Shogun led all nominees with 25 nods in all categories in total. Nominations for The Bear included best comedy series and best actor in a comedy series for Jeremy Allen White, while Shogun’s nominations included best actress in a drama series for Anna Sawai and best actor for Hiroyuki Sanada as well.
To sat the least, most of the nominations were expected, but still the Television Academy had a few surprises as well when the nominations for the 76th Emmy awards were released. While we have to wait to know the winners until the ceremony airs on September 15, 2024 on ABC, check out the major takeaways from the Emmy nominations.
Since a few of past favourites including Succession, The Last of Us, Ted Lasso and The White Lotus were missing this year, there has been much room for fresh shows and newer faces in nominations. Several shows, including Reservation Dogs, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, 3 Body Problem, Fallout, Palm Royale, and others have been nominated in various categories. There are various performers who are first-time nominees as well, including Ryan Gosling (for hosting Saturday Night Live), Reservation Dogs’ star D’Pharoah Woon-A-Tai and others. Not to miss, The Crown’s Dominic West, who is also a first time Emmy nominee this time.
This time, at Emmys 2024, comedy legend Carol Burnett got nominated as best supporting actress in a comedy for Palm Royale. There’s also Meryl Streep, who got a supporting actress comedy nomination for Only Murders in the Building. Not to miss, Jodie Foster for best actress in a drama for True Detective: Night Country, apart from Robert Downey Jr. for HBO’s limited series The Sympathizer.
Despite the wide variety of nominations, there have also been a few snubs this year, including Nicole Kidman from the Prime Video series Expats apart from Kate Winslet from the HBO series The Regime. Emma Stone, for her limited series on Showtime, The Curse, also did not make a cut.
Kali Reis and Lily Gladstone, at the Emmy 2024 nominations, have made history to be the first Indigenous actresses to be nominated. Other diverse talent spotted this year for the nominations include Reservation Dogs’ D’Pharoah Woon-A-Tai, Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada in Shogun, and even Selena Gomez from Only Murders in the Building.
Jamie Lee Curtis’ role as a mother on The Bear, got her nominated as best guest actress in a comedy. And it is something which was not planned
