Manchester United vs. Chelsea: Meet These Players Who Donned Both the Jerseys Ahead of Their PL Clash

Ahead of the November 3 Premier League clash between the two English giants, let us look at players who donned the jerseys of both sides

The November 3 clash between Manchester United and Chelsea will be a crucial outing for both sides following the sacking of United's manager Erik ten Hag. On one end, 14th-placed United, under interim head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, will hope to kick off a new chapter with a win; Chelsea, on the other hand, will aim to keep its momentum going, having found a new vision and direction under manager Enzo Maresca.

While it is tough to determine the game's outcome, the upcoming event gives us the opportunity to rewind the history shared between the two clubs, including players who donned the jerseys of both sides.

Mark Hughes

One of the greatest strikers ever to grace the Old Trafford, Mark Hughes was a crucial cog in United's line-up who helped the team win its first Premier League in 1992. He was also instrumental in winning two domestic titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1991. For United, he played 435 games, scoring 154 goals and winning 11 trophies.

In 1995, he moved to Chelsea and helped the Blues lift the FA Cup in 1997, the club's first trophy, ending a 26-year drought. For Chelsea, Hughes appeared in 122 games.

Juan Mata

In 2011, Juan Mata donned the Blue jersey at Stamford Bridge and quickly became a favourite. Mata was one of the most important players who heavily contributed in Chelsea's Champions League and FA Cup success in 2012. Not to forget, he also ensured Chelsea the Europa League victory the following year. For Chelsea, Mata played 135 games, scoring 33 goals and 53 assists.

Mata's stay at Manchester United was less fruitful as it took place after the Fergie era, which saw United struggle, and it continues even to this date. However, he won an FA Cup, an EFL Cup, and the Europa League in the Red Devil red jersey, having played 285 games, scoring 51 goals and racking up 43 assists.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku's time at Chelsea across two stints is not worth remembering, as the highly expensive striker scored only 15 goals in 59 games for the Blues. However, his stay at Manchester United was slightly cosier, having scored 42 goals in 96 matches with 12 assists. Unfortunately, he could not win a single trophy for United and Chelsea during his stints.

Paul Parker

Before Gary Neville became the epitome of a perfect right-back, there was Paul Parker, a name many may not remember. In the early mid-nineties, Parker was Sir Alex Ferguson's go-to right back who helped Manchester United win two Premier League titles and the FA Cup in 1994. Not to forget, he was also part of the legendary 4-0 victory of United against Chelsea. However, after Neville's arrival, Parker was shipped to Chelsea, where he played only four games.

Last but not least, in the upcoming game, Mason Mount will be the only player who was once a part of Chelsea but now represents the Red Devils.
