To the ton, she is known as Penelope Featherington, and this season is about her love story and ultimately betrothal with Colin Bridgerton from the Bridgerton family. This season therefore follows their love story, as well as her struggle with her identity, as she faces threats of exposure, with the queen trying to find out who Whistledown is! As a result, each episode of this season is filled with suspenseful moments, as she tries to manage everything, and hide herself from Colin and the queen, while also fighting for her identity. Start watching and you will find yourself compelled to keep going!
One of the most interesting things that the maker, Shonda Rhimes succeeds in showing is that Penelope is unapologetic about her identity and her standing in society. At various junctures, she is constantly faced with the question of giving up her work as the writer of the column and makes it very clear, that she is indeed an emancipated woman, who can take care of herself and will not give that part of her up. Therefore, this is a story about a woman’s liberty and assertion of herself.
One of the recurring things which make this show extremely enjoyable is the charm and wit of the Bridgerton family, which you can see in their interactions with one another. There is a constant banter that goes on between them which is extremely funny, and even endearing scenes, where they support each other. These moments make the show extremely enjoyable and are very heartwarming!
Another reason why you should consider watching this show is that it makes one truly believe in friendship. Both Colin and Penelope’s connections began as friends. Moreover, it also highlights Eloise’s and Penelope’s friendship rekindling. These two are the greatest friends in the first and part of the second season, but due to some reasons, fall apart. However, here we see a resurgence of their friendship, as things go south and Eloise comes to Penelope’s rescue. One more unlikely friendship that we see growing this season is that of Eloise and Cressida Cowper- and we begin to realise the problems of society, and how it makes people averse to friendships, which are so important in reality!
