IPL Trivia: Only Two Players Have Ever Won Six IPL Trophies -- Who Are They?

Call it talent or luck, but only two players since 2008 have been fortunate enough to touch the IPL trophy on six different occasions

Since 2008, when it comes to lifting trophies in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have heavily dominated the tournament. Therefore, on most occasions, it is players from the two outfits who have had the chance to touch the trophy several times, compared to players from other teams. However, of the nearly 900 players who have played in the tournament since 2008, only two have won the trophy six times.

Rohit Sharma

With 272 matches under his belt and 7,046 runs to boast, Rohit Sharma is one of the veterans of the game who has proved himself not only with the bat but also with his leadership skills. Sharma led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL trophies in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. The Mumbai lad’s achievement with the Indians is etched in everybody’s memory, but many forget that Rohit Sharma had made his IPL debut in 2008 with the Deccan Chargers.

Sharma had won an IPL title with the Deccan Chargers in 2009, taking his total tally of IPL trophies to six, one as a player and five as a captain.

In 2008, Sharma had scored 404 runs in 13 matches for the Chargers, followed by 362 runs in 2009 and 404 runs again in 2010. In 2011, he finally left the Chargers and joined the Indians, and since then, he has not represented any other franchise.

Ambati Rayudu

There is no doubt that Ambati Rayudu is a fine player, but we can all agree that the IPL has had better players who deserved one or more IPL trophies but did not get their hands on them. So, it is safe to say that Rayudu had Lady Luck on his side for sure.

Playing for the Mumbai Indians, Ambati Rayudu touched the IPL trophy in 2013, 2015 and 2017. He moved to the Chennai Super Kings in 2018, and in his very first season with the yellow outfit, he won another IPL trophy, his fourth. Finally, in 2021 and 2023, Rayudu was part of Chennai’s two more IPL-winning campaigns, taking his total IPL trophy tally to six.

In fact, Ambati Rayudu is one of the few players to have lifted the trophy in two consecutive seasons, especially with two different teams. Not to forget, he is the only Indian player to have won three trophies, each with two different franchises.
