Halfway into the season, the Punjab Kings are the only team that has yet to suffer a defeat
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a competitive T20 domestic tournament, making it difficult to maintain a winning streak. In fact, the task becomes more difficult when teams aim for a decent start to the season. Therefore, since 2008, no IPL team has won more than five consecutive games at the start of their season, but in the ongoing season, it seems the Punjab Kings will set a new record.
Punjab’s present run
In 2026, the Punjab Kings remain the only side to suffer a defeat after playing six matches. Out of six matches, the Kings won five, while one against the Kolkata Knight Riders was abandoned due to rain. From the six games, they have already collected 11 points.
Already a record?

Previously, Punjab won the first five games in 2014, and so did the Rajasthan Royals in 2015; both teams grabbed 10 points. So, technically, Punjab has already surpassed its previous records, given the team is undefeated in six matches, winning five and earning a point from the abandoned game, taking the current point tally to 11. However, one match was abandoned, which could’ve gone either way; Punjab needs one more game to officially become the record holder.
Hot runs in 2014 & 2025

The Punjab Kings, who reached the final but lost last season, seem to be on course to repeat that performance. In 2025, Punjab Kings topped the table with nine victories out of 14 matches. The team lost one game and had one match abandoned, so it earned 19 points. Last year, too, the abandoned match was against the Knight Riders.
Punjab Kings’ 2014 run was even better than their performance last season. In 2014, the team won 11 of 14 matches and lost three, collecting 22 points to secure the top of the table position.
Given how the team is performing this season, with a three-point gap already created, 2026 could be another season when Punjab reaches the play-offs by topping the table.
On Saturday, i.e., April 25, the Punjab Kings will visit the Arun Jaitley Stadium for a clash versus the Delhi Capitals. For the Kings, it will be all about keeping their momentum intact, whereas the Capitals will try to get back into the top four with a win over the Kings.
