Eighth-placed Mumbai Indians will host second-placed Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium
With only two points in the bag and having lost multiple games in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the Mumbai Indians now set their sights on the Punjab Kings, whom they will host on the evening of April 16 at Wankhede Stadium. For the record, the Punjab Kings are in a much better position compared to Mumbai, sitting second on the table.

The two sides have clashed 34 times, with both Mumbai and Punjab winning 17 games each. No match between the two sides has ever ended in a draw or without a result.

Punjab’s upper hand in 2025
Last season, the Punjab Kings dominated the Mumbai Indians, winning both games by significant margins.
In the first game, despite having a strong team on paper similar to this year's, the Mumbai Indians could only set a target of 184 runs in 20 overs at the expense of 7 wickets. Punjab Kings chased down the target in 18.3 overs with Priyansh Arya hitting 62 runs in 35 balls, whereas Josh Inglis added 73 runs in 42 balls.

The second game saw the Punjab Kings defeat the Indians by five wickets despite Mumbai’s 203 runs. Shreyas Iyer played a true captain’s knock by hitting 87 runs in 41 balls and helped his team get a double victory over the Mumbai Indians.
Punjab at Wankhede
Last but not least, given that Wankhede is the Mumbai Indians’ home ground, it is no surprise that the Punjab Kings have had only five victories at the venue. Therefore, even though Mumbai is out of form, we can expect the home side to break Punjab’s ongoing momentum.
