Observed annually on July 30, International Friendship Day is dedicated to recognizing the importance of friends in our lives.
You must have heard the common saying that goes, "Two's Company, Three's Crowd". But if you ask me, I would say this phrase doesn't add up in friendship. Rather, Andy Warhol put it aptly, "... One's Company, Two's A Crowd, And Three's A Party". Precisely, there is something remarkably magical about three-friend groups, no matter which stage of life you are at. In fact, Bollywood has explored this idea in several films, including 'DilChahta Hai, 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', '3 Idiots', 'Kai Po Che!', 'Stree' and 'Madgaon Express' among others.

It's International Friendship Day today, providing you an opportunity to show your friends how much you love them. On this occasion, let's discuss and understand why three is widely considered the "magic number" for friendships.
Everyone has a different perspective on life, and so it may sometimes getchallenging for us in decision-making. However, in a three-friend group, there's always a balance of opinions and perspectives. Even if two friends don't agree on a certain idea, the third friend comes into the scene and helps sort it out. It's obviously better than a two-friend group where you would probably end up being in a conflict.
‘DilChahta Hai’, starring Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, and Saif Ali Khan, is considered an iconic portrayal of friendship
Also, whenever there's a fight between two friends, the third acts as a mediator. Take Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut 'DilChahta Hai' for example. When Akash (Aamir Khan) and Sid (Akshaye Khanna) part ways due to their different perspectives, Sam (Saif Ali Khan) appears as a bridge between them.
Having a friend by your side through thick and thin is good. But what's better? Of course, it's having two friends by your side! You get a constant support system in a three-friend group! When one of them remains busy, the other one is there by your side!
Hanging out with just one friend can get boring after a certain time. On the other hand, a group of four or five friends can also feel overwhelming. So, it's always more fun in a group of three friends. There are more ideas, and consequently, better experiences that you can cherish for the rest of your life!
Studies say that we can have a maximum of two best friends whom we can rely on in every situation. However, that doesn't mean you won't have bigger social circles. And as you may agree, with two close friends, you would naturally get an opportunity to expand your networks. Especially by getting introduced to their families, you have two families/homes by your side.

You get a sense of belonging in a three-friend group – which feels like home! Consider yourself fortunate if you are part of such groups!
