IND vs. BAN T20I: Highest T20I Totals Recorded at the Arun Jaitley Stadium

The Arun Jaitley stadium is set to host the second T20I match between India and Bangladesh

One of the finest stadiums in the northern part of India, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is a venue known for big sixes and high scores. For example, when it comes to the Indian Premier League, 266 is the highest score recorded at the venue by Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the story is similar when it comes to international cricket. Given this venue is set to host the second T20I match between India and Bangladesh, take a look at the highest totals recorded in international cricket.

212 by South Africa

In 2022, when South Africa visited India on a tour, the first T20I match was played at this venue on June 1. India batted first, scoring 211, thanks to Ishan Kishan's 76 off 48 balls, followed by Rishabh Pant's 29 runs off 16 balls, and Hardik Pandya adding another 31 off merely 12 balls. However, South Africa responded with wrath and scored 212 to chase the target. Dwaine Pretorius scored 29 runs off 13 deliveries, whereas Rassie van der Dussen smashed 75 runs off 45 balls. David Miller also showcased his batting prowess, adding 64 runs off 31 balls.

202 by India

New Zealand, on its tour to India in 2017, played the first T20I match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on November 1. Batting first, India put up a target of 202 runs thanks to the bombastic duo of Rohit Sharma and former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan. Both the players scored 80 runs each, with Sharma needing 55 balls, whereas Dhawan played only 52 balls. Virat Kohli also scored 26 runs in a jiffy off 11 deliveries, whereas finisher MS Dhoni hit seven runs in two balls. In response, the Kiwis only managed 149 runs.

171 by England

In 2016, India hosted the ICC T20 World Cup, and therefore, Arun Jaitley Stadium hosted several matches. A Super 10 Group 1 match witnessed England posting a target of 171 runs against Sri Lanka. While the top order had a slow start, Jos Buttler, in the middle overs, cranked up the innings and scored 66 runs off 37 balls. Alongside him, Eoin Morgan also added 22 runs in 16 balls, whereas Ben Stokes came on the pitch to play only one ball but hit a massive six. Sri Lanka lost the chase, failing to reach the target by ten runs.

159 by England

The fifth-highest total is also held by England. Against England in the first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup played on March 30, 2016, New Zealand set a target of 153 runs.

However, while chasing, England finished the game with Jos Buttler scoring back-to-back sixes. Buttler even scored a six when the game was levelled, which helped England win the game by six runs and 18 remaining balls. Thus, England etched another highest total at the venue, despite the target being only 153 runs.
