Happy Birthday Ali Fazal: Exploring His Top International Projects, From Victoria & Abdul To Kandahar

Ali Fazal made his Hollywood debut with the 2015 film Furious 7, before starring in other Hollywood films.

Ali Fazal, who made his debut in Bollywood with a supporting role in 3 Idiots (2009), is now considered to be one of the most revered actors in the cinematic world. He gained fame by starring in comedies Fukrey (2013), Fukrey Returns (2017), but he is one Indian actor that has made a mark in international cinema as well, be it a cameo role in Furious 7 (2015), or playing the role of Abdul Karim in Victoria & Abdul (2017). Not to miss, he has featured in key roles in Hollywood films, Death on the Nile (2022) and Kandahar (2023).

As he celebates his 38th birthday on October 15, lets revisit his top international projects, including Hollywood titles.

Furious 7 (2015)

Ali Fazal made his Hollywood debut with the 2015 film Furious 7. Helmed by James Wan, the film is the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, anf featured an ensemble cast of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, among others. In fact, it was Paul Walker’s last film role before he passed away in a car accident. In the film, Ali starred as Safar, a friend of Nathalie Emmanuels Ramsey.

Xuanzang (2016)

In the Chinese-Indian film Xuanzang, which was released in 2016, there were several Indian actors, including Sonu Sood, Neha Sharma, Mandana Karimi, and Ali Fazal. Helmed by Huo Jianqi, the film revolves around Buddhist monk-traveler Xuanzangs 17-year journey to India.

Victoria & Abdul (2017)

In Victoria & Abdul, a Stephen Frears directorial, Judi Dench and Fazal played the titular roles. The 2017 British movie, based on Shrabani Basus book of the same name, revolves around the real-life relationship between Queen Victoria and her Indian servant Abdul Karim, played by Fazal. The film got two Academy Award nods and one Golden Globe Award nomination.

Death on the Nile (2022)

In Kenneth Branaghs 2022 mystery film, Death on the Nile, Fazal played Andrew Katchadourian. Based on Agatha Christie’s 1937 novel of the same name, the film was a follow up to Murder on the Orient Express (2017), and a prequel to A Haunting in Venice. The film’s cast also included Kenneth Branagh, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand,Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright, among others.

Kandahar (2023)

In Kandahar, Fazal was seen alongside Gerard Butler. Helmed by Ric Roman Waugh, the action drama also starred Bahador Foladi, Navid Negahban, Nina Toussaint-White, Vassilis Koukalani, Tom Rhys Harries, Mark Arnold, Travis Fimmel, and Corey Johnson.

The film revolves around a CIA undercover agent and his translator, and how they together flee from Afghanistan. Fazal was seen as Kahil Nasir, an ISI operative.
