Gamescom Opening Night Unveils Major Announcements: Key Takeaways from Europe’s Premier Gaming Event

If there’s one thing that the gaming industry needs right now is a bit of a boost in excitement. This year, the gaming industry didn’t witness any major console releases. In addition to this, there have been numerous strikes and layoffs which have affected millions of workers.

Similar to the Summer Game Fest, Opening Night Live (ONL), hosted by Geoff Keighley is a major video game showcase. With this event, Gamescom 2024- a renowned video game expo held primarily in Germany- commenced. Traditionally, this marks the final and the most important gaming event of summer.

The Gamescom opening night serves as an opportunity for enthusiastic gamers to gear up for the upcoming year! As the event sets the tone for the forthcoming twelve months, here are some major highlights and key takeaways from Europe’s largest gaming show in Germany.

From day one, this will be the first Call of Duty title to debut on Microsoft’s Game Pass. Those who are already subscribed to Game Pass can access the game without needing to pay any additional charges. On the other hand, PlayStation users can expect to pay around $90.

Amazon Joins the Multiplayer Gaming Scene

One of the most remarkable and surprising announcements of the Opening Night Live was “King of Meat”- a game which is not about mere cooking. Rather, the game offers a novel twist on the dungeon crawler genre, thus allowing players to team up with friends and survive in an aberrant reality show competition.

The game has been developed by the Guildford-based indie studio Glowmade, which was in turn founded by the ex-employees of Lionhead Studios, The game has been published by Amazon Games and is set to induce a unique experience for the players in the multiplayer arena.
