Double Dhamaka: Revisiting Jr. NTR's Iconic Dual Roles Ahead Of 'Devara'

A new poster of 'Devara: Part 1' was unveiled recently, leading to speculation that the actor might be playing a dual role in the film.

More of Jr. NTR is never a bad idea, and we have several films that prove it. Well, the latest poster of 'Devara: Part 1' features the superstar in two distinct avatars, leading to speculation that he might be playing a double role in the film. One image shows him with slightly longer hair, while the other features him sporting trimmed hair - both with an intense and mysterious aura. The caption reads, "THE FACES OF FEAR. In a month, his arrival will stir up the world with an unmissable big-screen experience. Let’s experience his Majestic Madness in theaters on September 27th.”

It's a Jr. NTR - the man of the masses – film, and hence the poster has already taken social media by storm! And although there's no official confirmation from the makers, fans are convinced that the superstar will be seen as both father and son in the upcoming film. One user commented, "It's official...NTR is double roles! Superrr excited."

'Devara', helmed by Koratala Siva, is Jr. NTR's first outing since 'RRR', and is scheduled for theatrical release on September 27. As we gear up to experience it on the big screen, let's revisit some of the superstar's iconic dual roles from his previous films.

Andhrawala (2004) - Munna & Shankar Pehlwaan

Jr. NTR was only a few films old in the industry (however, he was already a superstar by then) when 'Andhrawala' arrived at theatres. In this Puri Jagannadh directorial, the actor played dual roles as Munna and Shankar Pehlwaan - son and father. He shared the screen alongside an ensemble cast including Rakshitha, Sanghavi, Sayaji Shinde, Rahul Dev, Pasupathy, and Brahmanandam among others.

Shankar is a charismatic leader of a labor union who gets killed by his enemies. Munna, his son, grows up in an entirely different environment and is unaware of his father's legacy. However, the story takes a new turn when Munna gets to know all about it.

The film created enormous hype in the media but ended up becoming a commercial failure.

Adhurs (2010) - Narasimha & Chari

Narasimha and Chari are identical twins who get separated at birth and hence receive completely different upbringings. And Jr. NTR portrayed the two contrasting characters with the utmost ease. He sported a youthful appearance as Chari, and a rugged look as Narasimha - and his transition between the two was remarkably effortless.

'Adhurs' emerged as a moderate success, collecting an estimated ₹28–30 crores against a budget of ₹26 crores. Besides Jr. NTR, it also stars Nayanthara and Sheela along with Mahesh Manjrekar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Brahmanandam, Sayaji Shinde, Nassar, and Tanikella Bharani.

The film was re-released theatrically a few months ago.

Sakthi (2011) - Sakthi Swaroop & Rudra

In the 2011 fantasy action film 'Sakthi', Jr. NTR played both Sakthi Swaroop and Rudra (Sakthi's biological father). One character is a modern-day youngster, while the other has some complex traits. And whether it's the comedy scenes, the action sequences, or simply the dance performances - the actor gave his best to the film!

Jr. NTR shared the screen with Ileana D'Cruz, Manjari Phadnis, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Prabhu, Jackie Shroff, Vidyut Jammwal, Vinod Kumar, and Sonu Sood among others. Although the film was a critical and commercial failure, it's still remembered for Young Tiger's performance.

The idea of Jr. NTR playing double roles is immensely fascinating. And in 2017, he took it one step ahead by playing triple roles in the film 'Jai Lava Kusa' - Jai, Lava, and Kusa.
