Bollywood's Tribute To Mentors: Celebrate Teachers' Day 2024 With THESE Amazing Films

The bond between teachers and students is special, and the following Bollywood films celebrate that beautifully on the screen.

Some debts can never be repaid, especially the ones we owe our parents. And if you ask me, I would say this holds true for our teachers as well. They shape our minds and guide us through all the complexities of life. And they leave an impact so strong that we can never forget them!

There's a unique, not to mention special, bond between teachers and students that goes even beyond classrooms. Bollywood, over the years, has captured that beautifully in several films. Besides their entertainment value, these films also take you back to your schools or colleges, making you reminisce about the good old days. And they also offer lessons to all the aspiring or seasoned teachers out there.

Teachers' Day, celebrated on September 5 every year in India, gives us an opportunity to express just how much we love our teachers. On this occasion, let's have a look at some of the best Hindi films that pay tribute to them.

Black

How far can a teacher go for his/her/their students? Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2005 film 'Black' explores that in its powerful story. Loosely based on Helen Keller's autobiography, 'The Story of My Life', the film follows a deaf-blind girl (Rani Mukerji) and her relationship with her teacher (Amitabh Bachchan). It also showcases the struggles that teachers often undergo in their personal lives.

The film (made in both Hindi and English languages) was a major critical and commercial success and went on to gain a ‘cult’ status.

Taare Zameen Par

'Taare Zameen Par' is an example that Aamir Khan is a perfectionist not only as an actor but also as a director. This film (often referred to as one of the finest in recent times) conveys important messages about everything from parenting to education to the role of teachers and more. And the whole thing is dealt with so much sensitivity that you can't help but empathize with its characters.

Released in 2007, the psychological drama film follows a specially-abled child and his journey toward self-discovery with the help of his teacher. Darsheel Safary as Ishan, the protagonist, is pitch-perfect throughout the film, while Aamir Khan as Nikumbh Sir wins our hearts with his utmost sensitivity.

Hichki

There's "no bad student, only bad teacher". And it takes only a good teacher to change the lives of many. Having said that, what is the definition of a "good teacher"?

Well, Siddharth P. Malhotra's 2018 film 'Hichki' explores all these, and how! Starring a phenomenal Rani Mukerji as the lead, the film follows a teacher with Tourette syndrome who is assigned to teach a class of underprivileged students. Through her journey, the film critiques various societal stigmas and advocates for a comprehensive review of the education system.

The heart of 'Hichki' lies in its portrayal of the teacher-student bond. And it celebrates the power of education and the unbelievable ability of some teachers to shape minds.

Well, Bollywood has given us so many excellent films on teachers that it's impossible to include them all in one article. However, besides the above-mentioned films, the list also includes 'Stanley Ka Dabba', 'Iqbal', 'Mohabbatein', 'Saala Khadoos', and 'Super 30'.
