On Ayushmann Khurrana’s 39th birthday, let’s revisit his romantic love story with wife Tahira Kashyap.
Actor Ayushmann Khurrana is celebrating his 40th birthday on September 14, 2024. While he may be one of the most loved heroes in Bollywood, it cannot be ruled out that he is as romantic in real life as well, and his love story with his wife, filmmaker Tahira Kashyap, is nothing short of a fairytale. The couple not only had a childhood romance, and a wedding when they were young before having their perfect happily ever after.
Interestingly, Ayushmann and Tahira first met at a physics class when they were still at school in Chandigarh. Revealing their love story, Tahira had shared with India Today in 2016, ”Both of us attended the same Physics tuition class when we were in the 12th standard. It was a batch of around 60 students and when I first met Ayushmann I thought his name was Abhishek. Both me and my friend had a crush on him but outwardly ignored him throughout the year. I later discovered that he also had a crush on me; I think I was popular with the boys because I was tall and had an arrogant air about me, because I was always on my guard. One entire year went by without either of us talking to each other and that’s how it would have remained if our story hadn’t taken a filmi twist.”
When one day Tahira’s father decided to meet his astrologer friend, they soon found out that the astrologer was none other than Ayushmann’s father. The couple ended up dating for years during their college phase, and got married in 2008. Ayushmann and Tahira are now proud parents to son Virajveer and daughter Varushka.
Nonetheless, the couple has had their share of insecurities. Reportedly, when Ayushmann became a star after Vicky Donor, their marriage went through a tough time. “She wanted that I should not kiss on screen. You see, we were like each other’s first boyfriend and girlfriend,” Ayushmann had once told SpotboyE, adding, “We were also going through a rough patch. She was not ready for all this.”
However, soon their rough patch ended, and Ayushmann credited their blissful relationship to their long standing friendship. He revealed how the two have been great friends since Class 12, and then their friendship evolved into a relationship, before turning into marriage. “You discover each other emotionally and physically but if you are not friends, it won’t survive for too long,” the actor had told DNA.
While Ayushmann had established himself with several box-office hits, including the Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Andhadhun, Dream Girl and more, Tahira is a writer, and made her directorial debut with the short film Toffee (2017). She had also directed Zindagi inShort (2020), and Sharmajee Ki Beti (2024).
