GOAT - The Greatest of All Time - Is Vijay's 68th Film As Lead Actor

Thalapathy Vijay made his debut as a child actor in 1984 with the Tamil film 'Vetri'. Later, in 1992, he played his first lead role in the film 'NaalaiyaTheerpu' at the age of 18. That film failed to make a mark, however, earned Vijay the Cinema Express Award for Best New Face Actor, establishing him as a rising star.

There has been no looking back since then. He went on to do leading roles in films like 'Poove Unakkaga', 'KadhalukkuMariyadhai', 'Love Today', 'Kushi', and 'Thulladha Manamum Thullum' among others. However, he reached unprecedented heights of stardom in 2004 with the release of 'Ghilli' which became the first Tamil film to gross over ₹50 crores. With subsequent films like 'Thirupaachi', 'Pokkiri', 'Kaththi', 'Mersal', 'Bigil', 'Master', and 'Leo' among others, he established himself as the biggest star of Tamil cinema in his generation.

Notably, 'GOAT' is the 14th film of director Venkat Prabhu and the 25th production of AGS Entertainment.

Thalapathy 68 Was Actually Supposed To Be Directed By Atlee

Vijay and Atlee have collaborated three times over the years, delivering blockbusters like 'Theri', 'Mersal', and 'Bigil'. In late November 2021, it was reported that the two would reunite for their fourth collaboration with 'Thalapathy 68' (the actor's 68th film as lead). Vijay was filming 'Varisu' and 'Leo' at that time, while Atlee was occupied with his Hindi debut, 'Jawan'. Several reports of their fourth collaboration continued doing the rounds throughout 2022, claiming the shooting would commence in June 2023.

Later, Atlee became busy with his production venture, 'Baby John', and it was announced that he would not be directing Thalapathy 68. In May 2023, Vijay announced on social media that his 68th film would be directed by Venkat Prabhu, and produced by AGS Entertainment.
