AI Skill Scholarships Open: What Creators Should Know Before Applying For Government-Backed Training

The government-backed AI Skills House programme is offering free training access for creators, students and digital professionals who want to use AI in content, storytelling and production.

Creators who have been tinkering with prompts, thumbnails, edits and scripts now have a more formal route to learn AI. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies have opened enrolment for a national AI skilling programme, developed with Google and YouTube, offering 15,000 AI skill scholarships for creative talent. PIB posted the enrollment update on May 4 at 4:53 PM, making it a current opportunity for May 5 applicants.

The programme is meant for emerging talent in media, entertainment, animation, gaming and digital storytelling, not only coders sitting with black-screen terminals. That part matters. A video editor, meme-page admin, small-town filmmaker, designer, YouTuber, animator or aspiring creative technologist could all find something usable here.

What The Training Covers

The first phase is online and focused on foundation-level AI literacy. Selected participants will receive access to Google Career Certificates and Google Cloud’s generative AI learning paths, with about 33 hours of training covering generative AI basics, prompting techniques and responsible AI use.

The AI Skills House page says Phase 1 includes Google AI Essentials, Prompting Essentials and Google Cloud Gen AI learning paths. It also says learners do not need prior coding or technical experience, which is useful for creators who are talented but not necessarily “tech people.”

The Better Angle: Build A Portfolio While Learning

Here is where applicants should be a little smart. Don’t treat this like another online certificate to dump on LinkedIn. Build a tiny proof folder while completing it: one AI-assisted script, one thumbnail test, one short video workflow, one prompt sheet, one before-after creative sample. Very basic. Very useful.

Phase 2 moves into hybrid, project-based specialisation, including storytelling, creative production, platform best practices and exposure to tools such as Gemini, Veo, AI Studio and Vertex AI.

For creators, this scholarship is most useful if it becomes a working portfolio, not just a course badge. Applicants should enrol, complete the foundation quickly, and convert the training into visible creative samples.
