Year Ender 2024: Key Government Initiatives That May Shape India's Future

The Indian government has made considerable policy changes and introduced different schemes to fuel India’s industrial as well as economic growth in 2024.

As 2024 draws to a close, India stands on the cusp of remarkable transformation, supported by a range of progressive from technological advancements to environmental sustainability. These policies are planned to address critical issues while designing a progressive future ahead. Here are some key initiatives of 2024 that can potentially shape India's trajectory in upcoming years.

Digital India 2.0: Accelerating Digital Transformation:

The government’s modernized Digital India 2.0 model focused on innovation and enhancing cybersecurity. The year 2024 witnessed the rollout of 5G infrastructure in more than 1,000 villages to connect rural areas to high-speed internet. Additionally, the government took initiative to introduce AI-based tools in agriculture and healthcare to enhance productivity and accessibility in underprivileged regions.

Ayushman Bharat 2.0: Revolutionizing Healthcare:

This initiative was a game-changer in this year to make healthcare accessible and affordable to all. The government introduced new telemedicine platforms, health insurance schemes, and also focused on AI-driven diagnostics to transform the healthcare sector. These initiatives are aimed to develop a robust healthcare system to caters diverse needs of India’s population.

Green India Mission - Addressing Climate Challenges:

Considering the rising climate change, the government has intensified the efforts under the Green India Mission with the launch of huge reforestation program across 10 states. The government also focused on renewable energy sector with the commissioning of the world’s largest solar park in Rajasthan. Initiatives like increased subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs) manufacturers and buyers along with the establishment of more EV charging stations underscore India’s commitment to achieve net-zero emission agenda by 2070.

Skill India 2024: Preparing the Future Workforce:

The Skill India 2024 program targeted growing sectors like AI, robotics, and green technology. The government has launched over 200 advanced skill training centers across different states offering certification programs. By providing these future-ready skills to India’s youth, India aims to become a hub for skilled workforce in the global market.

Women-Led Development: Bridging Gender Gaps:

The government has rolled out programs like the Women Entrepreneurship Promotion Fund to empower women across various sectors. Moreover, the expansion of maternity perks as well as workplace safety rules ensured a supportive ambience for women in the workforce.

Atmanirbhar Bharat: Boosting Self-Reliance:

Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign, 2024 saw a massive investments in manufacturing and innovation sectors. The government has launched several policies to attract foreign direct investment in semiconductors and defense. Furthermore, the production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes were extended to various industries to encourage domestic high-value goods manufacturing sectors.

Bharat Mala 2.0: Revamping Infrastructure

The ambitious Bharat Mala 2.0 project aimed on construction of highways, expressways, and rural roads better connectivity. Key projects like the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and the Northeast connectivity corridors were completed this year to further improve the trade and travel efficiency. These initiative unlocked economic potential and strengthened India’s logistical framework.

As we step into 2025, these initiatives like digital empowerment to green growth will shape a resilient and self-reliant India that aligns with the aspirations of a billion-plus citizens.
