Trivia: Bollywood Remakes of Jim Carrey Classics That You Aren’t Probably Aware of

Bollywood has always had a habit of remaking, but even remaking is an art. After all, finding the right man to fill Carrey's shoes wasn't an easy task

Remakes are done by every film industry, be it Bollywood or Hollywood. And while remakes are often not appreciated or even trolled, remaking is still an art. After all, finding the right actor to replicate the original is not a walk in the park.

When it comes to Bollywood, the industry has remade several movies, including some of the classics comprising the legendary Jim Carrey—movies you probably haven't watched or, when you did, you didn't realise they were remakes.

Liar Liar

Made in 1997, Liar Liar was the story of a lawyer (Jim Carrey) whose entire career and life were based on lies. However, one day, the lawyer's son wishes that the lawyer doesn't lie for a day. The rest of the movie is about how the lawyer's life goes haywire.

Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta

Four years later, in 2001, Bollywood's evergreen comedian hero Govinda, in an association with David Dhawan, did 'Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta’. The story had a similar plot, and Sushmita Sen was the lead opposite Govinda.

Dumb and Dumber

The 1994 comedy flick had Jim Carrey and Jeff. Daniels is in the lead role. In the movie, the two actors come across a suitcase of money related to a criminal case. However, when they return it to the police, they start chasing them.

'Welcome 2 Karachi

In 2015, Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnani starred in a film named 'Welcome 2 Karachi.'. In the Indian version, the two actors try to reach the United States without a passport in a boat, but instead of reaching the States, they end up in Karachi.

"We wanted to capture the goofball sincerity and endearing stupidity of Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber," said Bhagnani during the movie's launch.

Bruce Almighty

Jim Carrey's Bruce Almighty doesn't need any introduction. Dissatisfied with his life and angry with God, Bruce spends his days complaining. However, one fine day, God confronts him and gives Bruce the divine powers to run the world.

God Tussi Great Ho

Five years later, Salman Khan stepped into Jim Carrey's shoes, whereas Amitabh Bachchan played the character of Morgan Freeman.

Given Bruce Almighty's popularity, the Hindi remake didn't garner much attention and tanked at the box office, collecting merely INR 20 crore.
