Not Just Fastest ODI Century, THESE Other Records Are Also Owned by Smriti Mandhana

In 70 balls, Smriti scored a 100 against Ireland in Rajkot on Wednesday—the fastest in women’s ODI for India

India went all guns blazing against Ireland in the third game of the India versus Ireland series, which concluded in Rajkot on Wednesday. The Women in Blue collectively stole the limelight as India scored its highest-ever score of 435 in the ODI format.

However, the media limelight was largely stolen by Smriti Mandhana, who hit a century in 70 balls, giving birth to a new record in the history of Indian women’s cricket. By hitting a hundred in 70 balls, Smriti surpassed the previous record of Harmanpreet Kaur, who had scored a hundred in 87 balls last year against South Africa.

Given Smriti Mandhana is the player of the moment, grabbing all headlines, this occasion gives us the opportunity to recall some other top records that are also owned by Mandhana.

Most runs in series

Smriti Mandhana holds the record for scoring the most runs in an ODI series. In the ICC Women’s Championship, Mandhana so far has played 24 games, amassing 1,358 runs at an average of 59.04 and a strike rate of 96.10. Her highest score in the series stands at 136, along with five centuries and eight fifties.

Most centuries in a year

Last year, Smriti Mandhana scored four ODI centuries in the 2024 cricket calendar, because of which she now holds the record for scoring the most ODI centuries in a year. Earlier, the record was held by England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt, who hit three ODI centuries in 2023.

Most 90s

Most 90s in the ODI format? Smriti holds the record for scoring six nineties between 2013 and 2025. Australia’s Ellyse Perry also has six centuries, but Mandhana tops the chart because she has played only 97 matches while scoring 4,209 runs, whereas Perry has played 154 games with 4,185 runs under her belt.

Most runs in a year

Last year, Smriti Mandhana also created a new record by scoring the most T20I runs in a single calendar year. In 23 games she played in 2024, Mandhana scored 763 runs, which included eight half centuries. She was also the only batter last year in the T20I format to hit over 100 fours—104 to be precise.

Most 50s

Since 2013 till now, Smriti Mandhana has hit 30 half centuries in the T20I format, the highest by a woman batter. Earlier, the record was held by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates, who had 29, but Mandhana surpassed her record in 2024. Not to forget, Mandhana is also the second highest run scorer at the moment in the T20I format with 3,761 runs and counting.

Mandhana’s overall stats

Overall, Smriti Mandhana has played 97 ODI games, amassing 4,209 runs, whereas in seven test matches, she scored 629 runs. In T20I, she has played 148 games, scoring 3,761 runs. Given that Mandhana is only 28, with years of cricket still left in her, the Mumbai-born left-hand batter is expected to have several more records in cricket.
