"'Kill' is deeply personal for me." - Nikhil Nagesh Bhat (Director)

As far as action cinema in Bollywood is concerned, 'Kill' is nothing short of a revolution for sure! The film literally lives up to its title and shows the kind of action (or more specifically, 'violence') that we have not seen in our films before. And you know how it stands apart from other action thrillers? It portrays brutality as an art, and not just as a spectacle, reminding you of some of the best actioners from South Korea or Hong Kong. Whether it's the choreography, the performances, or simply the emotions behind what's happening on the screen - 'Kill' hits the bull's eye in every sense!

Helmed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, and starring Lakshya as the lead, 'Kill' hit theatres on July 5, 2024, receiving loads ofappreciation from critics and audiences alike. And now, after making waves on the big screens, the film is all set to stream on Disney+Hotstar by mid-August.

"... one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I’ve seen recently. Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible," said Chad Stahelski, director of 'John Wick,' about 'Kill'.

As we gear up to watch the action thriller on OTT, let's learn an interesting fact about it that not many know.

'Kill' is based on its director's personal experience

Well, 'Kill' follows an army commando who boards a New Delhi-bound train, and goes on to fight a gang of bandits to save the passengers. And while it may sound surprising, the film is not an out-and-out fiction but is based on a real event. It's inspired by a real-life train robbery that the director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat experienced in 1995.

In one of his interviews, Bhat shared that the incident took place in his train journey between Patna and Pune during his student days. In his words, "I was not a witness to the four-hour robbery directly, as I was in a different coach. But seeing the aftermath left a profound impact on me. So, the film comes from a personal experience. When I woke up in the morning, I saw that the train was stranded, and there were cops all around. I saw the passengers who were beaten up. A couple of them were stabbed and the kind of horror they were going through impacted me so much that it stayed with me for such a long time."

"That's what made me feel so strongly for the story of 'Kill' because I saw the faces of those passengers. I saw how scared they were and how traumatized they were," he added.
